Has anyone ever lived here or nearby? Having to relocate due to work, and our main office is in Dallas. Trying to find some smaller towns to look at and ran across Waxahachie. Seems like a decent town on the surface.

Waxahachie is a nice place although small does not apply anymore. Some chain restaurants accompanied by quite a few local places in town and close by. It is growing but still better than the north suburbs.

It has the square which is nice but otherwise is mostly suburbia now. People used to move out there because they could get property for horses but I don't think those parcels are affordable anymore. If you want a large property maybe look around Ferris. Corsicana is an up and coming town near there but its another 20 minutes further from Dallas. A lot of people live in Red Oak and commute to Dallas but I don't know much about that town. Also look east of Dallas at Rockwall, Fate area.

You have to go further than those. My nieces teach in Fate ISD and they are building schools like crazy.

It’s the home of Meat Church. Can’t be bad!

Stayed a weekend there a few years ago and didn’t seemed to be anything special. Captain Redneck Dick Murdoch was from there so can’t be all bad

Irving is so far into the center of the DFW area that anywhere truly out of town will be an hour or more commute with traffic.

If you are in Irving anything decently rural is going to be far. I would look in the Justin, Argyle area, but like Waxahachie they're becoming part of the metroplex. If you want to get outside of the city, you can look in the Sherman area, but enjoy sitting in traffic

My parents lived in Ovilla (next to Red Oak and Waxahachie) for 25 years and mom commuted to Las Colinas (near Irving). It wasn't great but they made it work. Lots of time in the car. Living in Ellis County used to be okay back then, but it has changed and not in a great way. Agree that I would look north and northwest of Irving, since you'll be in suburbia regardless. The areas out near Justin and Rhome would be my preference, if you couldn't make Keller or Southlake work.

If you are going into the office during normal business hours, do not go that far out. Whatever peace you find in a more rural life, will be crushed with the commute into Irving.

Irving is between Dallas and Fort Worth, so any East or West is out. North and South will not be much better, but better going North.

Do not know the house price you are looking for, but heading out towards Grapevine, Trophy Club, Justin, Flower Mound is not bad. There is still some small town feel to some of that left for now.

I think Colleyville is great and no one seems to ever really mention it on here

I'm only having to go into the actual office one day a week. Pissed me off that I'm having to relocate only for one day, but the money is too good. Since I only have to go into the office once a week, I'm not too concerned with the commute it would take. I would take a long commute while being able to live in a town that isn't so close. Sorry all that info probably would have been helpful upfront.
