What would the best way to start researching and booking this trip? Probably would happen Jan 25 or March 25

The Significant Other was discussing going to Maine for lobster fishing and maybe stay in a camp up there.

But I’m almost dead set to go to Granada and Barcelona

First and foremost, the Alhambra is amazing and a must see. With that said, I’m not sure, exactly, what you’re asking for help with.

Itinerary? Length? Other cities? Airlines? Hotels? Etiquette at a traditional hammam?

I’m asking the best way to book the trip. Is it bundle? Through an agent? Tips on where to research how to get best value for the trip etc

Would it be best to book trip to Barcelona then travel to Granada

Unless you are extremely out of touch with using the internet to set up travel, travel agents are worthless. We can touch on the rest in a bit.

Depending on how much time I had, I would be inclined to fly into Madrid, take the train to Toledo, to Sevilla (my personal favorite city in Spain), to Córdoba, to Grenada. Then fly to Barcelona. Then either fly out of Barcelona on an open jaw itinerary or fly back to Madrid to fly back home.

I know how to use for flights but never used for a whole vacation. I did not know if the pricing was different going through the net or if an agent was best option.

Thank you for the idea of open jaw I had not thought of that actually

Travel agents at this point are only useful for really, really exotic travel in which some measure of danger might be involved, and even then, you want someone who specializes in the area. Zero value for something like Spain. Flights are easy, the trains are easy, the hotels are easy.

Making this trip in two weeks. Using a travel planner. After booking every trip on my own for the last 20 years my wife got me to use this travel planner because frankly I did not have the time or energy to dedicated to planning this one. I will let you know if the premium is worth it.

Just to follow up, great trip. Would definitely recommend the travel planner. She did not set up anything we could not have done on our own. That being said, I think the experience we had was better. We told her what we wanted and she set everything up including private guides, transfers, drivers and even dining reservations. Was in constant contact with us. Called us a cab one night when it was raining. Don’t think I could have done it on my own for much less. The premium was negligible. Well worth it.

Thank you so much for the information about this. We are planning to make this a group thing, as some people we went to grad school were wanting to go as were some people from same district we work in.

As mentioned Sevilla is amazing and you can daytrip to Gibraltar or Ronda from there. I’d choose Ronda as it is breathtaking and there’s more to do.

Sevilla is fantastic.

Couple summers ago we flew into Madrid, went to Granada, then to sevilla before ending up in Barcelona. Very doable via high speed train although May make more sense to fly from Granada or Sevilla into BCN.

Has anyone else made this trip? As stated I want to plan it for the Christmas time of this year, as a present for finishing up getting clinically licensed.

Live in Seville for the past 3 years. Renfe is the main train operator in Spain. Trip from Madrid to Seville is about 90 mins and costs bout 35e. Can go from Seville to Barcelona by train in 6.5 hours for about 65e. Granada to Seville is about 2 hours by train. Trains run frequently and usually on schedule. Alhambra is great and about a day long visit - book in advance and do a tour inside of it. In Barcelona, you want to go see the Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell (can do both in one day if pressed for time). Seville you want to go see the main Cathedral (book a tour), the Plaza de Espana and the Royal Alcazar.

When she finished college, my daughter (no pics) did a 30-day jaunt around Spain by herself. The trains are good. She flew in and out of Madrid. The Alhambra pics are amazing.
