I’m a regular traveler on United and always am in Group 1, however, the last 3 trips have been ridiculous in amount of Group 1 boarders.

Did United change something to allow more into 1? It’s significant change that others in line have mentioned too. Normally get to gate 10 min before boarding and am in first 5, now I’m 15-20th with just as many behind me.

Been a minute since I upgraded a united flight but if you purchase priority boarding do they give you group 1?

I stopped buying a boarding groups and now just use photoshop to remove my boarding group number from my pass. With American and Delta that gets you the same group as paying for priority.

Not sure, but something changed in the last few weeks… I’ll be 1k after this flight, but was still curious.

Maybe it’s people reaching status end of year, but it’s crazy busy now.

I don't think anything has changed... maybe more travelers getting Gold?

I don't think I've noticed that but I haven't flown United in a few months. I've been Premier Silver for the past 2-3 years, and every year I get to December with ~1,000 PQP away from reaching gold status. I have 23 flights that well exceed the 16 needed... frustrating that I can't get those PQP but I come so close.

I think the only way would be to purchase upgrades when I fly.. but then I feel like the benefits of being Gold aren't enough for me to have spent potentially $1,000's upgrading.

Whomp.

Are you at 1K simply because you fly a ton with them, or do you upgrade your seat a lot as well?

I like a deal too much to stick to UA all the time. I've probably taken an additional 10-15 flights this year on other airlines because the cost difference was that much. Likely why I'll never reach gold :(

I stopped flying SW when I moved out of Louisiana, it was no longer a hub at my airport.

Only reason I flew any on SW this year is bc I have companion and want convenience of burning miles and decent boarding.

SW is fricking their best customers with their pre-board bullshite. The ones that spend the most money with them end up boarding 20-25 people deep and don’t get best seats bc of fat people and fake injuries

United’s treatment of best customers is miles above SW, although SW rewards are better.

Did you change the route you were flying? I flew DFW-DEN weekly over the summer and never had many people in the Group 1 line, but there aren't a lot of O/D UA elites in DFW.

Monday morning flight out, Thursday afternoon flight back. When I've had to fly hub-hub (IAH-DEN, etc.) those flights are always loaded with elites and therefore have much longer queues in Group 1

SW would be the best airline if they assigned seats like everyone else. Keep the boarding the same but allow pre-purchase of seats. Because unless you are military or flying with kids or on cruches you're not getting an exit row seat. Meanwhile I can fly with crap arse Spitit pay an extra $50 and sit in a 2×2 seat in the front of the plane.

Qualifying tiers for status are much easier this year, while flight traffic has gone back towards normal. More Gold and above status holders= more Group 1 boarders.

If you are flying from United business travel hubs like IAD or SFO it seems like 3/4 of the plane is in groups 1 or 2.

Nope, same routes, just noticeable uptick in last 3-4 weeks. Very noticeable with people commenting in line “where the hell did all these 1s come from”.

Guess it has to be those reaching gold that normally wouldn’t.

I only fly United & always have group 1, but don't recall this issue in recent trips. Haven't flown since September though.

I'll check again this week on my flight to Atlanta for SEC Championship.

Well we are near the end of the year for one. I am not sure about United but Delta has extended status every year since covid so now it seems like every single person out there has at least Silver.

Thankfully those extensions are ending and they are upping the requirements to thin the elite herd

United announced return to pre-pandemic status... Big increase for 1k, think its about 5 grand more. Currently 13.5 PQP and going to 18.

I saw where having Marriott Titanium Elite Bonvoy status was also going to automatically give you Silver status on United.

Silvers board in Group 2, and if you're staying that many nights in a hotel and want to fly UNited, you are likely well above Silver
