Looking for some answers to some questions:

Wife and I are going to the Bahamas at the end of the month and I have never traveled out of the country. The questions I have are as follows... 1) if we bring some alcohol in a checked bag (store sealed) will we have to pay anything on it when we land in the Bahamas and 2) have a layover in Atlanta so can I buy items in the duty free shop such as alcohol and bring it into the Bahamas? Thank you all in advance

Your better option is probably #2. But also that is because #1 is a lot of hassle for very little return.

I was trying to figure out why anyone would bring booze to an island, but maybe there is a very specific alcohol one of them has to drink and worries about finding it.

Talk about bringing sand to the beach.

I heard the Bahamian Beer is good and reasonably priced but I have been told if you want to buy a couple bottles of wine be prepared to pay a ton of money for them.

Cause they'll be buying $58 bottles of Meiomi.

It's your vacation. Just order the damned wine at dinner if you want it and avoid the hassles.

I remember wine being expensive AF. Everything else was pretty reasonable. The island beers are good and the liquor will get you right.

That being said, it's still cheaper to get buzzed at a restaurant than it is to eat.

Nobu has a great wine list.

Get in a taxi and go to Grey Cliff for the most extensive wine list in the world.

Problem solved.

Sands Light was a pretty decent beer and cheap.

Get you some John Watling rum and if you want to do a trip outside of Atlantis check out Sandy Toes beach. They pick you up near Atlantis.

We go to Atlantis every now and then. We don’t bring anything with us. If you insist on making cocktails in your room you can cab to a liquor store pretty easily. We rarely leave the resort. We did years ago out of curiosity. American dollars work everywhere. It’s an easy family vacation. We just let the kids run around the place. Last time we were there it was the WC and I basically watched soccer all day while the kids ran around.
