Anyone done it?

I took a 5 day ski trip to ASPEN/SNOW MASS by myself in February

It wasn't too bad. The daytime I just skied which is better alone. Can go where ever you want.

But at night it sucks getting food to go and eating in the room

I'm sure there were many people to talk to at the bars. Is this a joke? At the very worst you could have eaten at restaurants and people watched!

I've never taken a real vacation alone, but have taken some nice work trips alone that I've loved. Every afternoon after 4:00 to explore and do what I want for a week in Vegas, Denver, Seattle, Los Angelas.
Not a damn thing wrong with sitting at a bar to eat and drink alone. I've met lots of cool people doing this.
Only real alone trips I've done were some outdoor two day trips and I enjoyed those too:

A bunch of times. If I was out of town for work, I'd often extend my trip a couple of days to sightsee.

You can't eat at the restaurant? Just go to the bar...

Went to Key West in August and NYC in December. Sure it may be a little awkward at first but I enjoyed my time. Got to do what I wanted.

I've done it plenty.

Went to Vegas a couple times alone (that way, the shite really stays in Vegas ). Had a great time. Met chicks. Met people. Did stuff. Ate in restaurants and people watched.

Also went to Europe twice alone, but I went on an organized tour, so I was with 40 other people on a bus. But, I could go with other people whom I befriended, or go off by myself. Met some great people on these trips, some of whom I'm still friends with.

One thing, though. I haven't done this since the advent of universal smart phone usage. I'm talking U.S., because in Europe, most Americans aren't willing to cough up the money for constant internet access on their phones. I imagine if you are sitting at a bar, you and everyone else are staring at those infernal smart phones.

In short, do it.

I ate at the bar a few times, the bartender was cool but he was busy, couldn't talk much. Most of the other folks looked like they didn't want to be bothered

I always do, on this last trip an Icelandic chick wondered what I was putting in my mouth and I told her it was smokeless tobacco and ask her if she wanted to try it and she did. She really liked it so I gave her a couple of cans that she guarded closely.

Meet Hrafnhildur

Turks and Caicos I hung out with a couple of Norwegian chicks for a few days. Thailand and Cambodia I met one couple form South Africa and one from India/Britain that I spent some time hanging out with. You can of course do all of this with another person along, but I like the freedom to do what I want when I want.

Told a friend yesterday that knowing what I know now having traveled a decent amount, if I was single I would motor bike through Vietnam.

I have heard great things from many people, but don't think my wife would want to do that.

Travel alone all the time. Nothing like the drive there all alone in my car. To be honest, at this point I think it would ruin the trip if there was someone else there.

Traveled alone for a year. Best year of my life. I highly recommend it for extended travel.

I'll go places alone if my SO doesn't want to go or I don't think it's safe for her. I did Israel/West Bank alone a few years ago, did Japan alone after a work trip to the far east, and am doing Cuba alone in a few month after a work trip to Mexico.

I used to have to travel for work alone back in my single days and since I was going to some cool places I would spend the weekend traveling alone and sightseeing. I went to several MLB stadiums by myself, actually caught a Cleveland Indians playoff game alone.
It was actually kind of nice sometimes depending on what I was missing at home.

I use to travel alone for work a lot. Don't travel as much anymore. Got use to eating at restaurant bars and meeting people. Doesn't bother me anymore to do it.

My first cross country motorcycle trip was supposed to be with two other friends, but they bailed due to money and time restraints. I was all in and went by myself. I am glad I did it. Met a ton of cool people and saw stuff I probably wouldn't of gotten to see had I been with friends and not talking to strangers as much.

Just got to force yourself to be outgoing and talk to random people. It's a lot of fun.

Life begins outside your comfort zone

I travel for work alone a good bit, but my favorite trip I've ever taken was by myself to NYC for a week at Christmas time 2015, it was amazing, and I highly encourage people to travel alone - even if only once - to get out of your comfort zone and experience the world, plus, you get to do whatever you want, when you want! Talk to a stranger, you'll very rarely regret it.
