I have a work trip and found some cheap flights to bring the family up to Chicago for the weekend while I am there. We are planning on a Cubs game, but looking for other things to do one night and in one of the days there. Any suggestions?

Eat. Chicago is loaded with great restaurants. Navy Pier is good if you have kids. Architectural boat tour is interesting. Art Institue of Chicago is pretty special. Stay in and stick to the Miracle Mile area. Also there are usually quite a few different entertainment options like concerts or theatre going on if Chicago is opened up. Take the blue line subway train into downtown fron O'hare. It's cheap and mist of the time much quicker than a car

We ate at some great places. Prepare to gain weight. Everywhere we went brought us more food than was humanly possible to consume.

Agreed.

Worth the trip. Make sure you take a coat as it will be colder on the water.

This can't be overstated. We only spent a half day here and it wasn't nearly enough. I love art and would gladly spend an entire day here if we go back.

Museum of Science and Industry

Another great place especially if you have kids with you.

You've gotta go to the Field Museum to see The Ghost and The Darkness (the lions of Tsavo).

Went there in the 8th grade on a field trip. Loved it then, especially U-505.

Took my kids there 2 years ago (pre-covid). Still enjoyed the hell out of it. As did my kids.

Agree on the Science and Industry Museum. Isn't that near the lake and Soldier Field?

The museum right across from Soldier Field is really neat
the 12 year old should really like it and there will be a few things for the 8 year old as well

take a pic at the Bean

Yes, and I think Shedd Aquarium is right in that area as well. Those 2 will fill up a day.

Chicago is an awesome family vacation.

Field Museum and Science and Industry are amazing. The U-boat is incredible.

Restaurants galore- try as many pizza places as you can, but there are tons of world class restaurants for all types of food. If you can fit in time for a burger at the Billy Goat Tavern under Michigan Ave it takes you back to the 70's.

We didn't spend much time at Navy Pier, I believe we rode a ferry from the aquarium that landed there. Ate at Harry Carey's and that was it.

Take a picture at The Bean. Willis Tower/Hancock Building observatories.

Architecture cruise was great, but our kids got bored quickly.

We've been twice and both times stayed along the Mag Mile/River North area. Easy red line train ride to Wrigley and we Uber'ed everywhere else.

Following.

Going at the end of May with my son as a graduation gift... found cheap flights as well and doing a little over 48 hours in CHI.

Hitting 2 baseball games, 1 on the Southside, then the next day 1 on the northside. Will try to find things to fill in the gaps between.

Same though, not sure how much is open so have begun the research.

Went a few years ago with my Wife during the cold months(Feb) so will love to see the things we didn't and experience the perfect weather.

(13) Year old boy...so any recs also would be great..... Obv if the Blackhawks or the Bulls are in the playoffs will attempt to squeeze that in if it fits the schedule..

but go to Pizza must place? Want to hit Au Chevel this trip... have to try that burger..

Want to take him up 90+stories at the Sears Tower or Hancock Tower(we went to the Signature Room for a cocktail last visit)..

All Recs appreciated!

currently looking into Hotels....obv think we'll be in the mag mile area since its easy to walk to everything, but we did NOT do the train when we were there last time....

Should we to get to the White Sox game and Cubs game?

Sox play at night, Cubs have a mid day game...

Just trying to figure out uber vs train...

Unless you're just a big Sox fan, or a fan of the team they're playing, I'd just do the Cubs game. There's nothing all that special about their ballpark.

Agree...also, the 'south-siders'/nite game...take place adjacent to a VERY shady neighborhood ! Skip that and go to Wrigley ! Great hotel w/ decent rates is the Drake...right on the lakefront !

thats what I figured... but goal is to knock out both parks. strictly a baseball type trip so doing both.

so probably better to uber back from the sox game than take a train a 10pm

I did a night Sox game solo 7 or 8 years ago, and took the train back to the Loop. I never felt unsafe. The station is right across the interstate from the stadium and there's a fairly decent police presence.

I didn't walk around much outside the stadium, but that area didn't seem that bad to me.
