Stayed at the La Mansion del Rio (Omni Hotel). Paired with hotel on other side of Riverwalk (Mokara Hotel and Spa).

Very nice. Very attentive staff. Good room. As Omni members, we got vouchers for free drinks at bar during stay. Pool was nice .

Ate at:

Iron Cactus (twice - first and last night). Excellent food. Very good Chili con Queso.

Mon Chou Chou (French restaurant at Pearl Brewery). Got the Branzino - possibly the best piece of fish I have eaten.

La Margarita at the Market Square. Decent, but disappointing. Had a churro stand outside that did made to order killer churro's.

Ate at Ostra for breakfast (at Mokara). Very good blueberry pancakes and bacon.

Budro's on the Riverwalk was excellent (pricy).

Pearl Brewery District had a farmers market that was pretty cool.

Riverwalk was very nice. Well maintained. Lots of security. You can pretty much get everywhere along the river.

The Alamo was impressive. My thread about that on the PT.

Was there for basically 3 days and 3 nights. Could have stayed longer.

A manageable drive from BR.

Irony - We stayed at the Omni last year around this same time. Ended up eating at Iron Cactus twice also.

Food was really good. Only place we ate at twice.

We were limited in our options because the missus wanted to eat outside (Covid ).

There was an issue with flies everywhere we ate in the Riverwalk (always about halfway through the meal). I noticed some people had these mini-fans at their table (just a single silver "blade" that rotated) that was obviously to keep flies away, so it must be common.

We also went to La Villita, which is a little "artsy-fartsy" collection of shops and art galleries just off the Riverwalk. Actually some neat little places. Villa Tesoros had some things my wife liked and they offered free mimosa/bloody marys or beer while you shopped there. LINK /

SA is one of my fav places on earth.

Since you drove… next time spend a day in hill country

Also did you do the Japanese Tea Garden?

La Mansion is great I’ve stayed there twice.

If you went to La Margarita you went to the wrong place in the market. You should have gone to Mi Tienda. Although they are owned by same people… Mi Tienda has much better food.

Iron Catcus and Budro’s both legit

Instead of La Margarita you should have gone to La Fonda on main, it is a mile or so north of downtown

It is Mi Tierra and that is a tourist trap. Got to venture out a bit further from the Riverwalk for better food. Justa niceguy had a good recommendation with La Fonda on Main.

I was there last week.

Budro's hit the mark once again. Probably my favorite place. Blackened Prime Rib for me and the wife no pics had Shrimp & Grits and it might've been the best I've ever had.

On advice from a family member we ate at Paesanos Riverwalk as well. It was very good Italian and great service.

House of Smoke also on Riverwalk. Probably not the best idea to hit up a BBQ joint at 8 PM on a Sunday because they were out of a lot of items.

Yardhouse for beer. 130 some odd taps.

Buckhorn Saloon I guess it was worth the short walk just so see all the dead animals on the walls.

I have one night in SA in November and I am struggling picking that "one" place to eat.

I booked a brand new trendy place in The Pearl, but I am sorta wavering on that decision and am looking around again.

Since I only have one night, my preference was for elevated mex or texmex but I guess I am pretty open.

I actually like mi Tierra for the atmosphere but it’s not a great Mexican place compared to some others. Still like going every once in a while though

La Fonda on main if you are staying down town. Probably the best “nice” Mexican food in town.

It's Mi Tierra, I believe. Their bakery is fantastic, but both Mi Tierra and La Margarita are ok. I love La Fonda, Rosario's, Los Barrios, and La Fogata.

There's other missions that are cool to visit besides The Alamo. There are actually 4 missions besides The Alamo.

I love San Antonio so much. My daughter (no pics) went to college there and I miss getting to visit there several times a year.
