Family is heading to Tampa area next week for a quick last minute weekend getaway. We have never been to this area. Any advice or recommendations for three nights? Will be staying at Grand Hyatt Tampa then Hyatt St. Petersburg downtown. TIA.

Thx! Will look these areas up. From MSY to Tampa straight flight is 1.5 hrs and flights are always very reasonable on Southwest. This may be our go to weekend getaway spot if the area is as nice as I've heard.

Unfortunately you’re probably not getting a reservation with this short of a notice.

Go stroll around Hyde Park. If your kids can ride bikes rent some bikes from a COAST bike station and ride down bay shore. Driving home down bay shore is the biggest thing my wife and I miss about living in Tampa.

Honeymoon Island State Park is a good beach.

For good fish tacos/view Woody’s waterfront in st pete beach is the spot for you. Just make sure you bring cash. Outdoor seating on the water, kid friendly- but it is a real dive.

Tarpon springs is a cool area. If you go to get the fish dip. It will be smoked mullet but don’t think of the mullet we have in Louisiana.

That flight used to be the bane of my existence. Made that flight weekly and sometimes biweekly for 6 months before we moved back.

Last time I went there I crossed the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and went down to Sarasota/Siesta Key.

I had a firm belief that Panhandle beaches were the best in the continental US, but Siesta Key became my new #1.

Public Beach access #5 on Siesta Key was so private and beautiful. There were almost no one there so I pretty much had the entire beach for myself and family. Next time I visit Tampa, I will be staying at a condo in Siesta Key. No more Clearwater Beach for me (too touristy and crowded, also beach is not nearly as good)

Oystercatcher restaurant is in Grand Hyatt Tampa. I went there twice and enjoyed the food. They are pricey but good.

Definitely hit up Clearwater beach some of the most beautiful beaches in florida. Have lunch at Frenchy's right on the beach.

Have fun. You can walk the whole strip along Clearwater beach plenty of shops and restaurants or you can rent some bikes. The weekends there can get crazy. There is usually a little arts market right when you come across the bridge it's usually there on Saturday and Sunday.

Since you are staying downtown St.Pete definitely check out the rooftop bar called the canopy. The view is amazing at sunset the food is very good also.

Beautiful place to decompress. Honestly I can't remember even eating at any fancy places when we stay down there. Frenchy's and the other restaurant right next to it are good and plenty of restaurants all around there. Traffic will be bad but if you are already staying on the beach you will be fine. Traffic is horrendous trying to get into Clearwater beach from across the intercoastal. We walked alot just to get around. Enjoy it very beautiful down there.

The Columbia restaurant is great and is much cheaper than Berns, or at least it is for my family. If you go to Berns make sure to tour the wine cellar and go up to the desert room upstairs after dinner. It really is a fantastic meal but once you start ordering apps & drinking wine you can easily reach $3-400 per head for the night. It’s absolutely worth it, just don’t get caught off guard.

Ft Desoto State Park is a good day trip, they allow camping but they stay solid booked 6 months out.

also in Ft. Desoto park theres a little excursion in which you take a boat ride to an island that used to be a city, you can tour the old buildings and lay on the beach away from everyone else. Pretty cool if you have the time for it. I second Columbia restaurant...we went to the Ybor city one...try the deviled crab. Go drive through Anna Maria Island and keep driving south through the other islands down to Sarasota.

If you go to Honeymoon Island, make sure to bring some kind of water shoes as the rocks will tear your feet up. Ft. Desoto was fun. We spent the day there not to long ago. We will also be at the concert Saturday night.

Planning trip to Siesta Key and can't decide where to stay. Anyone have any recs? Wife wants Palm Bay club or Sarasota beach and racquet club, but they both look to close to the public beach and shopping village for me.
