Looking for recommendations on hotels, things to do, and restaurants in St Augustine. Will be there for 3 to 4 days in the spring.

Hotels can't help with that much but anything within a three mile radius of the fort is safe and affordable. Plenty of Bed and Breakfasts and the Casa Monica is very nice but expensive. My advice if you have never been to St. Augustine is on the first day jump on the Trolley and learn some history and get your bearing. Just walk around on your first day and of course walk St. George Street and head across the street to the Fort. If you go on the weekend it will be very busy but you should be fine. Food I would say hit up River and Fort and Collage Restaurant both are a little pricey but very worth it. If want cheaper go Prohibition Kitchen or Columbia Restaurant. Head to the light house, Lighter's Museum, and Anastasia State park. Walk the Flager College Campus it's the old Henry Flager properties and is beautiful.
Day trips: Rent a car or you can uber these places are right around St.Augustine Area.
Vilano beach- go to beaches Restuarant and sit on the intercostal waterway and take in the view and food(Fwiw if you go here drive down Magnolia Avenue it's on the way to Vilano. Voted one of most beautiful roads in America. Google it)
Caps on the Water- another great view and food(can get very busy at peak times)
Ice Plant- Great vibes in old ice plant that was actually a ice plant early 1900's. Get a drink and take the tour of the St.Augustine distillery next door.
San Sebastian Winery - make their own wine and there is a roof top bar at the top
Washington Oaks state park(Don't uber this one to far)- slightly south of St.Augustine but the drive down A1A is beautiful as it goes in between the Ocean and the inlets. The park itself will be beautiful in the spring.
St.Augustine Ampitheater may have a concert and it is a great location if you are in to that.
Alligator farm - it's not just gators its a great place if you have kids and want to see different animals
Any questions just ask away. I live 20 mins away from St. Augustine

we go for a week every April
everything the poster above said is spot on. St Augustine is wonderful
We stay on the beach at a place at the end of 10th street and rent bikes to go to the amphitheater and to downtown area. At the beach, the beachcomber is a great place to eat/drink/hang out and if there on a Saturday the farmers market at the amp is great. And don’t miss the alligator farm we love it

Casa Monica
Or the
Inn just across from the Gates at the other end of the old town.
I’ve stayed in both and would choose Casa Monica next time again. Both are nice. Casa Monica is large and on the square.

The Columbia restaurant in the historic district is always a must stop for us. Best Cuban sandwich I've had.

Embassy suites on the beach
Free breakfast Buffett, drinks and app on the evening, usually a band or some entertainment…right next to the pier and you can rent poles to fish

Thinking about FL for retirement. How is is the St Augustine area safety and hurricane wise?

Don’t forget to factor in insanely expensive property taxes, flood insurance and homeowners insurance. Oh, and some of the highest utility rates in the country.

St. Augustine itself is very prone to flooding even when Hurricanes are not involved. From a helicopter tour I took a few years back I didn't realize that St. Augustine is surrounded by water every where. I live just north from St. Augustine in a planned community and the infrastructure was developed specifically for drainage and flooding scenarios. Lots of floor gates and small ponds to distribute water and drainage set up to distribute large amounts of flood water. I have been in Nocatee twelve years and no flooding. knocks on wood. Plenty of places around St.Augustine to retire too. Love this area and St. Augustine

Utility rates nah. Property Taxes not to bad but Homeowners and Flood insurance can get pricey. I have been shopping around every year and have been lucky. Governor Desantis is trying to cap the insurance business because they are definitely going overboard just like in Louisiana also.

My parents live in St Aug.
We go down a couple times a year. Caps on the Water is great my wives favorite.
If you enjoy Coffee hit up Kookaburra Coffee. There are a few of them in the area. They have "Aussie Pies" that is a flaky savory filled hand pie. So good. They sell out of the Aussie Pies pretty early though each day. But we always hit there multiple times a trip.
St George street is mostly a big tourist trap. but its fun in its own way. And has some good places to grab dessert or a meal or drinks.
Ice Plant is a cool place.
The roof top on San Sebastian Winery is a favorite as well.

O'Steens never disappoints. Casual dress. Locals recommended it to us.

Wife's family loves that place and their fried shrimp. Glad to see that area making a comeback. Lots of new places in that area I like Odd birds also.
