Awesome and timely thread for me so I’ll hijack a little. Have a friend just get engaged to a lady from Madrid. Wedding in Segovia in summer. As suggested I’m going to spend a good bit of time in the south before the wedding. Also thought about going up to Bilbao and the Basque area. Anyone with experience there or in Segovia? Thanks in advance.

Been to Basque Country twice now - also a lovely but totally different part of Spain (in comparison with Andalucía in the south, for example) - the architecture is a bit unique, the landscape lush, the climate mild and often damp or overcast.

Nonetheless, both San Sebastián and Bilbao are well worth a visit. San Sebastián is well renowned for its gastronomy, so it’s a foodie’s delight.

Bilbao is no slouch on culinary front either though. It’s a super clean, modern (mixed with historical) and well managed city - an urban planner/developer’s wet dream. Both are well worth visiting in the same trip especially since they’re relatively close to one another.

No experience with Segovia though.

Have lived in Seville for 4 years, so feel free to ask any questions.
Any recommendations on where to stay in Seville? Would like something nice, but not break the bank ($400-500/night range). Either specific hotel recommendations or neighborhoods/areas of town I should be looking at. Thanks.

Oddly, we have never stayed at a hotel here. But. with that budget, you should be fine. The real old school, nice, hotel that is in the middle of everything is the King Alfonso 13. Also, The Hotel Alcazar (as the name implies, its close to it) is also very nice (we had friends stay there) and should not be as pricey as the Alfonso. We have had drinks on the roof at The Soho Cathedral and its in a great spot, and a friend stayed there and was very impressed.

We stayed at the Querencia de Seville in the Centro district. It’s a boutique Marriott property and easily walkable to all the major sights. It has a rooftop bar for sunset watching.

We loved Seville. As someone said don’t miss a flamenco show.

We stayed at the hotel boutique casa del Poesta. They had an apartment unit around the corner that was really nice for our family.

But yes listen to PMac great tips. Love Seville.

Went to Bilbao a couple of months ago. Its like Seville, but with greenery. Beautiful small city, and everything is walkable. If you like modern art, there is a Guggenheim museum there, which even if you don't like modern art, its an amazing building to see. Great, very affordable, food, too. From Bilbao, you can take a one hour train ride to Guernica, which has a fantastic museum, Peace Museum, that documents the horrible history of that town (Franco made a deal with Hitler that allowed the town to be used as bombing pratice for the Nazi air force prior to the start of WW2).

Yep, we had a five course tasting menu with a bottle of wine and it was less that 100 euro.

We flew into Madrid 2 years ago and only stayed for 2 nights since it was around 100 degrees there. But we went to Cava Bajas street which is full of tapas bars and had the best food of the trip, which included San Sebastian. We based our tapas bar choices on this guy's Video and we weren't disappointed. I believe he is a guide or maybe owner of Devour Tours which was recommended by someone on this board. They take you around to Tapas bars in several spanish cities if you aren't comfortable with doing it by yourself. But we watched a few of his vids and learned what to do and not do so we did tapas by our self. Most places in Madrid had english speakers on staff, in San Sebastian, in the non tourist neighborhoods, I had to use my rudimentary spanish and google lens to translate menus and place my order. I would recommend watching this guys vids for whatever city you will be in.

Just got back from 16 days in Spain.

Highly reccomend Hotel Amadeus for Seville. It’s a boutique hotel with a rooftop terrace that has a small bar and has an amazing sunset view of the Seville Cathedral, plus it’s cheap.

Barcelona-definitely see Sagrada familia. We did a day trip to sitges but the weather was shite. Nice town though. Gothic quarter you can get lost in. Tons of places to eat and drink

Seville-definitely check out the Royal Alcázar. If you’re into history get tickets to the Royal bedrooms, they give you an audio guide through each room and it’s awesome. Check out the cathedral (biggest in the world and where Columbus is buried). Day trips to Andalucía (southern Spain). We did Ronda and Cordoba. Cordoba has the most beautiful mosque/cathedral I’ve ever seen, and a beautiful Roman bridge. But, Ronda is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to. Over looks the Spanish country side and has fantastic wine

Madrid-we were honestly burned out by time we go to Madrid. It was on the back end of a 16 day trip. We did a day trip to Alhambra in Granada which was beautiful and went to the famous Madrid museum which was awesome but other than that we just shopped and ate
