Starting Feb. 16, Southwest will sell alcohol, including beer, wine, rum, tequila and vodka on flights at least 176 miles long. It is also said it will also add tonic water, apple juice, Coke Zero, Dr. Pepper, hot tea and hot cocoa to current lineup of non-alcoholic beverages.

Just curious what was their policy before they stopped serving alcohol. Was it all flights regardless of distance?

'Bout time. Frequent flyer/A-list preferred and switched to United the last 14 months for just this reason. After a week on the road and a 2-5 hour flight home on Thurs/Fri I need some liquor, dammit.

You could get alcohol on any flight that offered drink service.

Normally I would say great news but in today's world,
I think this is a big mistake.

They don't have many flights in their network shorter than this. Mainly the inter-Hawaii and some west coast stuff and HOU-AUS. Pretty much everything including HOU-SAT and DAL-AUS is longer than 176 miles and those planes barely get to cruising altitude.
