Recommend skipping Carnival altogether and buying drink pass on another cruise line.

They're really not.

$10–$15 for cocktails and wine, and $8–$9.50 for beers isn't stupidly priced when you compare to other on-premise prices.

Why would I pay ~$30 for 3 drinks when i can easily disguise an entire fifth of rum and bring my own?

My only cruise was a Carnival out of NOLA. Stopped in Natchitoches on the way down and bought a case (24 cans) of 10 ounce beers. Put it in a suitcase, and it was delivered to my room.

I don’t think that would work these days.

We got these in 2010. We did the same as mentioned and was able to bring on close to a liter of rum. Saved about $200 in alcohol -- would probably save close to $400 now. Worth it. At worst, they toss it out and you lose maybe $30 max.
