What’s the best starting spot for Vail? Lionshead or Vail Village. We will get warmed up on the front side before heading to the bb and bsb. Mainly concerned about crowds as I have routes planned out either way.

To be fair, Breck has done a decent job of cleaning out the majority of those shops. 10 years ago there were probably double the amount they have now.

Big Sky here, early March. Any tips for an intermediate gaper?

I picked up a sweet T-shirt in Breck just last week.

Lionshead for sure, two lifts instead of just the one gondola, and you can get on Born Free Express which almost never has a line during the week. Not sure about weekends but both gondolas almost always have a wait.

I don’t have any tips for Big Sky specifically. I would try some moguls or jumps if don’t have much experience doing those, they always tend to make my days on the slopes more fun. Adds some variety to the day.

Last year the the weekend lines for the gondola at vail village were some of the longest I’ve ever seen. I wonder if they will only partially load the gondolas again this year because of covid.

On the other hand the weekday crowds seemed to be lighter than usual. Wonder if the international travel to places like vail will be back to normal this winter or not.

My favorite mountain...There is tons of intermediate terrain right at the base off of ramchanger and swift..some of the best cruiser groomers. This is also the busiest part of the resort, hopefully the new swift lift will allievate some of the bottlenecks that happen but on a weekday morning you can rip down on most of the blue groomers and ski right back onto the lifts.

Even better intermeidate terrian off of six shooter and lone tree on the moonlight basin side of the mountain.
Some more long cruisers and good intermediate tree skiing there as well(whiskey for example is a good run if you want to dabble in some more mellow tree skiing).

Big Sky is so vast you can spend three days there and not hit everything even as a intermediate.

That’s the type of info I’m here for. I’ll be there an entire week for a conference. The only time I’ve been to big sky was during the summer a couple of years back. Loved the biking.

I was actually thinking about taking Riva Bahn up from Vail village and not the gondola.

I never ski on weekends, sounds miserable.

I did Vail twice last year and Tahoe, each for 4 days (Monday-Thursday) and hardly had to wait in any lines.

The partial loading was hilarious. I was a single rider and it was funny how many groups refused to let me or other single riders go up with them.

Which is fine but Riva Bahn Express is about a quarter mile or so away from Vail Village and Gondola 1, with that being said since the Golden Peak area is out of the way, its not a heavily used lift and its the fastest way to get to the Northwoods Chair.

Nowhere in CO had singles lines so the lifts ran very inefficiently. Gondolas were definitely the worst.

Hopefully this year will be different. However, the day after the epic pass “deadline”, Vail announced masks are required for all indoor facilities. Last year that meant no indoor dining or very few tables for dining.

Aspen had singles lift lines; most groups didn't care and singles were welcome.
Gondolas were terrible everywhere.

I'm thinking of Big Sky, Telluride, or Jackson Hole this year.
But all this Vail talk has me thinking I might go there as well.
Decisions, Decisions.

That’s interesting. Pitkin county had some of the strictest restrictions according to what I’ve read.

On the opening day of Vail, it was “ride with you arrive” or something. Gondolas and 6packs had one person. The next week it was changed to “leave an open seat” for chairs and “are you ok with a mixed group” for gondolas. Ya know, science.

I need to get to JH. The drive up during the summer isn’t bad but I’d imagine it gets really nasty and dangerous during the winter. Flights were $600 when I checked the other day
