Highly underrated in my opinion. Spent a day there last year and had a blast. Some really great runs. Also I feel like a lot of ppl sleep on copper mountain. I actually liked it better than breck. Bold statement I know.

Honestly when I speak to the ski bums here who are absolutely obsessed with skiing, generally Breck is usually not one of their favorites. I’m not one to talk since I’ve yet to even go to Breck. You’re in good company with that opinion though.

The big downside to Breck is all main lifts concentrate people to crowded base areas. The midmountain lifts service the high alpine stuff. It’s a shame because Breck has some great intermediate runs.

Most of the ski population's skill level funnel them to Peaks 7, 8 & 9.
Independence, Colorado, Mercury/Beaver Run. 3.5 lifts. That's it.

If you are advanced enough for Peak 10, or don't mind doing Kensho laps, there are other options outside of the Bowls.
But, it's either 6 chair, imperial, and T-bar for the bowls (and it's not the best access setup)....
Or, it's an exercise in finding the shortest superchair lines.

With that said, I do like Breck. Just commenting on why some might not like it as much.

So if we decide to do 2 days at Vail and 1 day at Breck (Th, Fri, Sat) is there any logical way to plan to limit crowds? Or because these are two very popular resorts it really won’t matter which we go to on Saturday?

Both will have crowds on Saturday and likely on Friday as well if it’s in the middle of the season.

Thanks. Yeah I’m resigning myself to the fact that we will have crowds to deal with, not much choice given I have to save PTO days for the family vacation at Mardi Gras. Same for my buddies.

I know Vail is fantastic but the more I look at some of the tree runs at Breck the more I just want to stay there for 3 days.

Does epic pass work at copper mountain or would you need to buy a lift ticket through copper mountain resort? And is there any way to get a better price on lift tickets?

Seriously consider planning two different trips.I realize we may be talking about two separate ski seasons, also.

But, both Breckenridge and Vail are deserving of plenty of time and attention. You won’t get tired of either one in three days, and you won’t see enough of either one in one or two days.

Pick one and spend three days there. Plan your next trip for the other resort. I think you will be better satisfied.

And for me, the town of Breckenridge kicks Vail’s pre-fabricated butt. Ha ha

Our family trips alternate between ski trip and tropical every other year. So the next big family ski trip will be 2023. So another reason I'm going to multiple resorts is to get a better idea of where I'd like to take the family the following year. But I'm having beers with my buddies tonight to chat about the trip more so we'll see what they want to do.

Copper is covered by the Ikon pass, not Epic. The cheapest option for Copper, assuming you’re going more than 3 days, will likely be an Ikon pass... I think the base pass is about $750 and a Copper day ticket would be about $180. Sometimes there are discounts on websites like Liftopia, I had a really hard time using it last year though due to Covid. I’m not sure how it’ll be this year.

Copper is one of the more expensive resorts. I’d look at places like A Basin or Loveland for cheaper tickets. I think Winter Park is also on the less expensive side.

Thanks, I tried Liftopia and for every resort in Colorado it say X amount of deals and all are out of stock. Not just for Copper but for all resorts listed. Only deals they had advertised is summer stuff like bike rentals etc. Is that something we should check closer to winter time?

I hear this a lot but don't get it. I love Vail Village. It is nicely laid out, there is a good mix of restaurants, shopping is regulated to a degree so it's not loaded with cheesy t-shirt shops(looking at you Breck). Most base villages(not towns) are pre-fabed to a degree.

Water Color, Seaside, Rosemary Beach are all pre-fabed and not shat on for it.

Breck over Vail because Vail is pre-fab. Is it the all the t-shirt shops or quaint Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory that gives Breck its authentic feel?

Just got off the phone with Epic, and there is no reservation system for 21/22 season. Guess that means possibly bigger crowds but it also means more flexibility. So we're going to go Breck Day 1, Keystone that night, Vail Day 2 and then decide what we want to do on Day 3 after visiting all 3 resorts.

Great to hear the reservation system is history.

Everyone has their own preference. I like history. In the Rockies, that means old mountain towns...mining heritage, Old West roots...like Breck, Telluride, Frisco, Idaho Springs, Leadville. Vail doesn't fit that mold. Doesn't mean it's bad...but it is, as I described , a "pre-fab" town compared to the old mining towns.

With your statement of Vail being a must, I’d do 2 days at Vail and 3rd at either Breck or Keystone. For lodging, Frisco/Silverthorne is good, but also look into Dillon (more & cheaper options) or better yet Avon (much closer to Vail.) And if you have a late or early flight, look into a half day at Loveland either to or from DEN. All that said, I do agree with those who suggest that Vail is so big that it deserves a three-day trip itself; if I were staying in Frisco/Dillon I’d focus on Breck & Keystone, maybe ABasin if you’re a good skier.
