re: Savannah Ga.
Just got back from the same trip a month ago after dropping off my kid at college.

Charleston is larger and more to do. Also felt safer and less homeless walking around. Food was excellent. Halls chophouse was all world. The service was outstanding and made up for the $$$$. Even received a thank you card upon our return from the waiter. Also ate at The Ordinary. Really unique and food was great.

Fort Sumter was great. The other forts were closed. Walked around a good bit to see battery park and the homes there. King Street was hit and miss as the city was not crowded. It was a little sad and made me appreciate the busier times in a tourist area.

Savannah is a darker time. More like New Orleans and smaller. Walked everywhere and ate at The Old Pink House. Great. Similar to Commanders Palace. Tried to get into the gray but is a tough ticket. Little Duck diner is good for lunch. Just hung out and walked around. Once again not crowded. Did visit the boa venture cemetery That was cool but if you don’t like that type of thing I would skip.

Opinion is more time in Charleston and less in Savannah but both are cool. Have fun.

Gotta disagree. I love Savannah. Lots to do. Walk the squares downtown, walk River Street (once, don’t get stuck there as it’s just a clean cheap no strip club version of Bourbon St), Fort Pulaski, Tybee Island. Lots of good food and drink as well. Eighth Air Force museum is awesome too.

Walk the squares, especially if you’re into history, but they’re beautiful either way. There is a ton of history in Savannah. Brunch at Husk and Collins Quarter. Olde Pink House is great for dinner. Ordinary Pub for something more casual.

Savannah also has hop-on/off trolley. Makes seeing the squares much easier.

Savannah - After all the pretentious stuff, eat at Treylor Park and get fried banana pepper rings and a grilled apple pie sandwich. You're welcome.

re: Savannah Ga.
Just returned from Charleston & Savannah.

Ditto what was said earlier - Charleston has almost no homeless folks. Plenty of history. Did a small group walking tour. Good food scene - ate at Circa 1886 and Peninsula Grill - both very good. Fort Sumter is a good 2 1/2 trip, but the museum is not open.

Also, they are sticklers for masks in Charleston, even outdoors in those walking tours.

Savannah - not as many mask wearers. Saturday the historic district was packed with young folks, some live music could be found. Do walk the various squares - plenty of history.

Good restaurants, but just a notch below Charleston. Ate dinner at Alligator Soul and the Olde Pink House. Former reminds me of some New Orleans places, good place. Latter is a nice meal, but it's no Commander's Palace. Also had brunch at Husk.

If you are driving and you enjoy some scenery try the clubhouse (Ryder Cup Bar) at the Ocean Course at Kiawah. Takes a while to drive through the development but the view is great and the food is not bad.
