Savannah and Tybee Island

Tybee Island sucks, but I understand the parents of the small kids will want a beach day or two. Keep your expectations low on Tybee and you'll be fine.

Savannah proper is a prettier and better run version of NOLA FQ. I recommend the foot version of the ghost tour, much better than the carriage ride ghost tour. Tons of history with spookiness mixed in. Open containers OK, just like FQ. Tip your guides.

It's going to be hot as a red fox in a pepper patch, humid. Bring bug repellent and apply whenever you intend to walk through the squares or the skeeters will bleed you dry.

Pro-Tip: The Spanish moss won't grow on trees where something bad happened.

Olde Pink House is the fancy restaurant of choice, make reservations well in advance, like now.

If you're flying into ATL, do *not* speed, especially through the non-town that is Dublin, GA. I got a $400+ speeding ticket in 2006 doing 75 in a 65.

Any ideas of what to do to kill a day tomorrow in Savannah? Not too much into ghost tours. Coming from nola. Wife is in town for a conference.

Have a reservation at stone and Webster chophouse tomorrow evening

Late April.

Savannah is nothing like New Orleans and Tybee doesn't suck like the other person said. Tybee is fine, especially if you are just looking for beach time with the family. I recommend doing this on North Beach over by the light house. There is also the Marine Science Center there that would be fun for your family as well.

With your kids ages, check out the Jepson Museum. If you do some of the other tours this may be included. They may also like the Railroad museum/ Children's museum as well.

My favorite place to eat downtown is The Pirates House, besides the food there are some fun legends surrounding the place. For breakfast check out Maple St. Biscuit company. Your kids would also love a store called, Planet Fun that has a bunch of toys/comics, etc.

Day drink and explore?

Savannah & Tybee Island are great.

Check out The Crab Shack on Tybee. Great low country boil. Get everything except the crawfish.

The beach is huge but low key.

There’s great shopping and dining in Savannah. The ghost tour was a lot of fun. There’s some really cool graveyards.

It’s New Orleans-lite. Not near as boisterous or dirty. Much more family friendly.

If you're not doing 97 in a 70 on I-16, stay in the right lane and keep your head on a swivel.

Went there about 20 years ago. Remember lots of parasailing, old shops, parking meters on beach. We stayed in Savannah at BnB with good food and of course, lots of watermelon & okra.
We took walking tours, shopping as lots of arts & ceramics with SCAD near by. Heat index was 120 degrees & town pretty much shut down. See the pretty BnB white house with arches on porch and wrought iron fencing. Never could find any low country food.
