Must see places?
The Loretto Chapel
Across the street from it is The Mountain Trails Gallery, they sell very high end art and it’s worth a look.
We ate at Coyote Cafe on a friends recommendation and it was very good. It’s in the historic district.

Yes to Coyote Cafe. Stay around there as well.
If you have kids, Meow Wolf is a must.

It’s a pretty small town so any “Top Ten” google searches for food, must-dos, etc will be pretty accurate. When I went 10 years ago TD was a good resource too. It’s a nice place to visit. We went in March too.
I surprisingly had altitude sickness my first afternoon/night there. I did get off the plane in Albuquerque and go straight up the Sandia Peak Tramway (10,400 ft above sea level). That probably had something to do with it.

Have breakfast at Boultawns bagels. Hatch chile bagels are awesome.

Do a sunset train ride through the desert
LINK
Hike through Bandelier—might be a little chilly but cool experience
Grab a chocolate elixir at kakawa
To mix things up check out Meow Wolf—trippy experience. Kind of a cross between scavenger hunt and fun house
Plenty of great places to eat
El chile toreado is a food truck that is a James beard semifinalist. Great burritos
As far as restaurants our favorites:
La Choza
Sazon
Geronimo
The compound
The teahouse—great brunch
Los Poblanos Norte for great cocktails

Georgia O'Keefe Museum.
Cross of the Martyrs/ Ft. Marcy for a nice overlook.
Short drive to the east on I-25: Glorieta Battlefield Trail, site of one of the few Civil War battles in the West. It was the battle referenced in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly".

Check out Overland Sheep store on the town square, even if you don’t want to buy anything. Cool stuff, and smells great.

Food/Dinner:
La Choza or the Shed for classic New Mexican.
Tomasitas if you want classic New Mexican with a mariachi band
Paloma for upscale mexico-city inspired cuisine $$
Geronimo for upscale fine dining $$$
Tesuque Village Market for a cool experience and good drinks/beer selection.
Marias for "the largest selection of tequilas/margaritas". Food isn't bad, but the tequila selection is the real selling point.
Dives:
El Parasol if you want the New Mexican version of Taco Tico or something. There are a few chains, and it's badass. Shredded Beef Tacos are awesome, but everything is good. Highly recommend for grab and go lunch.
El Chile Toreado for a badass food truck
Bumblebee's for drive through/pick up is good.
Shake Foundation: burgers and shakes (I think the burgers are a little bland).
Cocktails, Craft and Coffee:
The Teahouse Santa Fe: great stop in if you're walking Canyon Road. Solid drinks, food, and coffee and tea.
Los Poblanos Farm Shop: hip store with craft cocktails in the Plaza area.
Rowley's Farmhouse Ales: close to Meow Wolf and well worth stopping in. Beer is excellent.
Local Breweries to look out for:
Le Cumbre (ABQ)
Rowley's Farmhouse
Bow and Arrow
There's tons more, but that's a start. As for what to do, that's a great question. We somehow continue to find new things to do every time we go there. Lots of museums (O'Keefe Musuem and International Museum of Folk Art are probably my favorites). Driving out to Abiquie and O'Keefe country is cool Abiqui lake is nice swimming and rock diving. A good day trip is O'Keefe home tour, Ghost Ranch hike to chimney rock, then swim at Abiqui Lake. The original Ojo Caliente is also out that way.
Nambe Falls is a fun hike (be careful hiking up the falls, as it can get treacherous). Lots of hikes on the way up to Ski Santa Fe. Heading up to Bandolier/Los Alamos for a day trip is always good. Valle Caldera. Jemez Springs is up that way as well.
Lots of options, which keep us coming back over and over, but the real magic of the place is the climate and the culture.

Great food everywhere and really haven’t had a bad meal there. Make sure to make reservations though if you’re going to a nice resteraunt there.
Someone mentioned altitude. If you are from the gulf coast start drinking water as soon as you get off the plane and stay hydrated. Was a tip I got after a couple of trips there and it really works for the altitude sickness.
