Santa Fe, NM vs Sedona, AZ

The wife and I are looking to do a 4-5 day trip in March to either Santa Fe or Sedona before our next kid arrives. She will be 5 months pregnant at the time, so we can't do anything too extreme and can't make any trips up North due to the weather and can't go skiing being 5 months pregnant, so we our kind of limited on where we can go. Looking to do some light hiking, eating, and she'll probably go to a spa or something. Thoughts? Activities? Which one?

Santa Fe is pretty awesome.
Pretty country around there, good food, lots of art going on. Check out Meow Wolf too while you're there.

Sedona. Went this past June.
Enchantment if you are an OT baller. It's away from most things but pretty picturesque. You can also just head here for a great happy hour on their patio bar + you have a D.D. Great views.
Recently stayed at Sedona Rouge as we weren't looking to spend too much time in the hotel. Very nice nonetheless and left $ for dining, activities.
Rent a convertible and drive through oak creek canyon. Go all the way to the Grand Canyon and take a helicopter tour in a panoramic cockpit chopper.
Eat at mariposa in the courtyard along the railing at sunset.
Eat a great lunch or dinner at elote - short rib enchiladas were on point.
Plenty to do. Beautiful sights and very compact to get from most anyplace rather quickly.

Interesting topic.
I thought Santa Fe was cool and only spent a day there, but felt like I had seen it all.
Wife has a conference in Scottsdale coming up and we're thinking I'll tag along and go up to Sedona.
Is Sedona the same way? Did I not see everything in Santa Fe? Am I just a terrible person?

Weather will be about 10 degrees warmer in Sedona that time of year. That would be my primary concern if looking to get outdoors.
Can't go wrong with either place. Great food, spas, scenery, outdoor activities.
If you are into art Santa Fe will have more to do.
The scenery in both areas is beautiful but Sedona has the jaw dropping red rocks and canyons.
If you do Sedona you could also spend a day up in Flagstaff or south rim of Grand Canyon, or both.
I'd save Santa Fe for a later date when you can go in warmer weather. Combine Santa Fe/Taos into one trip. This report from that area last summer was great LINK

Sedona is beautiful. And they have the only non red and yellow mcdonalds in the world.

Sedona is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. We went in February when it wasn’t hot though. Did a lot of hiking. Absolutely loved it.

I would say you missed out on some things. Governor's Palace, Canyon Road, Tesuque Flea Market, Meow Wolf, SITE Santa Fe, O'Keefe Museum, Museum of Indian Arts, Museum of International Folk Art, Loretto Chapel, and about 1,000 amazing places to eat.
That's just in Santa Fe. You've got some awesome hiking and other areas just outside of it like the turquoise trail, Ghost Ranch, Bandolier NP, Tent Rocks (AMAZING), Ojo Caliente, 10,000 Waves, Valle Caldera, etc.. etc..
I will say that margaritas are a major part of Santa Fe culture, so wife may or may not enjoy that... at least you have a designated driver, though.
We love Santa Fe. We've actually been talking about taking a trip to Sedona soon as well and checking it out, though.

This. Flagstaff is 30-45 minutes away. South Rim a couple of hours away.
You can also check out Jerome which is also close to Sedona.
Also...if you are going in March...MLB Spring Training is going on in the PHX metro area. Even if you are not big MLB fans it is always fun to go to the spring training games.

Any good places to ski around Santa Fe in March?

I think Santa Fe mountain makes snow. We were there to bike in March last year, and there wasn’t much snow in mountains. Taos and Angelfire are fairly close.

I prefer Sedona to Santa Fe, hands down. There are plenty of things you could do, I’m sure even easier hikes being 5 month pregnant...there is a good bit of shopping and art galleries in town, Jeep tours might be an option...hot air balloon rides...plus I would think it would be a little warmer.

I've never been to Sedona but I went to Santa Fe last summer. It is the most beautiful city I've ever visited in the US. It had a ton of things to do.

Definitely do a Jeep tour in Sedona

His wife is pregnant, so he should make sure her doctor is ok with this first. We have gone off roading in my husband's jeep in Sedona (and see several of the pink jeeps doing jeep tours on the same trails we are on)...it's a very bumpy ride and you are bouncing/shaking around quite a bit, even with seatbelts on.

I haven't been to Santa Fe, so can't help you there.
I somewhat like/recommend Sedona. First off, Sedona and the surroundings are incredibly beautiful. No question about it. However, the town was too new and "posh - cookie cutter" if that makes any sense. It's a resort town that seems new. There isn't a lot of authenticity there if that makes any sense. If you are okay with that, then definitely go. The beauty is incredible.

did both last march. Sedona nothing but a one street traffic jam. Santa Fe/Taos much, much better but in SF did get caught in light snow storm first week of April.

You didn't do Sedona right then. Much more than the main drag.

Ski Santa Fe is 10 minutes up the mountain. Should be fine in March.
