Might head that way with my lady for a long weekend in March. The only recs I’ve seen are for places to eat and drink. Anything else worth doing within an hours drive of this area? Hotel/resort recs?

Lost Pines Resort just south of Austin is really nice.

Lakeway Resort and Spa is a different flavor, but also nice.

Other than grab a drink with me?

Stay in Austin. Honestly. I know I bag on SA, but it's for a good reason. It has the Riverwalk (which is gross) and the Alamo (meh)...and that's about it.

If you like funky:

Hotel St. Cecelia
Hotel San Jose
Hotel Van Zant
Hotel Ella
Driskell

If you like big chain:

W
JW
Fairmont
Hilton

It's a little further than an hour, but Fredericksburg is always a cool place for a day trip.

Hill Country - Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock, and the LBJ Ranch (if open) are worth visiting.

Hiking, mountain biking,
The San Antonio Botanical Garden is nice.
the Blanton Art Museum in Austin is nice as is the Umlauf Sculpture Garden near Zilker Park.
I would get reservations for anything as there are limits on number of people. Also, most of Texas schools are on spring break March 15-22 and most state parks are already booked up. Everything will be a cluster that week.

Pretty much anything you can think of is available. What do you want to do?

Wine? - William Chris in Hye
Beer? - real ale in blanco
Hiking? - lots of options. If you choose a state park you need to get a day pass online in advance. Get one now if you want e-rock
Climbing? - e-rock, reimers, or Barton creek
Mountain biking? - reimers, Emma long, probably something else I don’t know about. Been a while
Fishing? White run should be going then. Try Colorado bend state park.
Artsy shite?- I’m not much help. Try the 40 acres but I think they’re all hiding from Covid.

Riverwalk

I’ve been several times...wife has never. Gonna have to make a stop there.

I lived in New Braunfels for a couple months when I was in my early 20’s. I’m sure a lot has changed since I last spent time in the area.

La Cantera if she wants to check out a fancier outdoor shopping area. The Tecova shop has a bar.
If you venture into the Hill Country you have to take your picture in front of the Luckenbach post office just because.
If you’re out there in Bandera in late afternoon the Axis and whitetails wander around in crazy herds, and OST has good country food.
Find an ice house at least once and hang out. Our favorites are in Cibolo and Bulverde.
I think the Japanese Tea Garden and Historic Market Square are some of the coolest spots in SA.

san antonio has a lot of mexican markets. basically a flea market with all the shite you can get in mexico at 4x markup. but it is safer than nuevo laredo.

may be warm enough to swim in san marcos river or similar

gruene hall for a concert, possibly the whitewater amphitheatre

at&t center gets big concerts

idk what is on the cota calendar but could be a race of some sort

Austin area has a tremendous array of outdoors stuff--hiking, biking, paddleboarding/kayaking.

The LadyBird Johnson Wildflower center is a nice botanical garden.

I’m not sure if mention but there’s a big outlet mall in San Marcos. That’ll take up an entire day.
