Thinking about driving there this weekend. Any recommendations on things to do, places to eat/drink?

Go watch the propaganda video about Joseph Smith at the temple square. And drive up to park city and down to Provo if you want to see two very different communities within a short distance.

Salt Lake is my favorite big city. Lots of things to do if you love the outdoors. The food is very good, but typically midwestern.
Can’t miss:
Moochies for sandwiches and subs.
Your Pie Underground for the college pizza place.
Penny Anne’s Cafe for breakfast/brunch.
Ruth’s Diner for breakfast/brunch.
Log Haven for fine dining.
The brewery scene is pretty good there, but Fischer Brewing is by far my favorite.
Drive up to Park City. Go ride the tram at Alta and hike the mountains. Flowers should be blooming up there.
The city is amazing clean. The infrastructure is first class. There is a distinct lack of culture that anyone from the South will notice almost immediately.

Alta doesn't have a tram. The flowers won't be blooming up there until July. The only thing you'll find up there right now is mud.

Are you coming in from i70? Short detour to Moab would be worth it if you want to see some red rocks.
Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons for drives. The Alpine Loop just opened as well in American Fork Canyon. It's very beautiful, but there will probably be a lot of traffic and people drive like idiots on that road. I would not go in a big truck if you have one.
Waterfalls are great right now. Lisa Falls is a short hike and a good hangout spot. Donut Falls in BCC. Stewart Falls in AF Canyon. Farmington Creek, Duell Creek and Adams Canyon are all great, just a bit north of SLC.
Breweries: TF, Red Rock, Chappell, Kiitos, Bewilder, Shades. Bohemian is great for lagers and German food but it's not downtown.
Bars: White Horse is back open after burning down last year. Great spot for whiskey. Lake Effect if you can get in.
We don't eat out much downtown, but the best meals we've had here were from Provisions and Mar Muntanya. Someone else mentioned Log Haven, it's a great restaurant in a beautiful setting.

Second the Lake Effect recommendation. Also within walking distance are some very good restaurants…Matteo’s, Carson Kitchen, etc.
