Looks like we are going to Park City next year for spring break. I've never been to SLC or that area so I'm trying to figure out how many days outside of skiing to plan? I figure I'd like one day for SLC and one day for Park City outside of skiing, do I need more? Taking the week off of work and my kids are out of school so I have the time. I'm thinking we may stay at a hotel in SLC for 2-3 nights to save over the ski resort?
ETA: I mean save over the resort first while we explore the area. Then move to the resort to ski. Rather then seeing SLC from our Park City lodging.

Just go to park city. There’s not much that would be worth doing in SLC. Maybe go see the tabernacle, but you could do that on the way out.

When we go to PC we stay in PC and ski everyday except taking one day off normally middle of the week and do our shopping, pool/hot tub or just being lazy and stay off our feet. SLC is only 45 minutes away and the drive is easy if there is something in SLC you want to do. Just seems like a hassle to move accommodations during your trip

SLC is my favorite big city. There's a handful of things to do. A Utah Jazz game comes to mind immediately. Perhaps a Utes home game if they are still playing. Bunch of restaurants that I love there. Shopping is good. Mormon stuff to see. Antelope Island. Great Salt Lake.

If it were me, I'd fly into SLC and spend my first night there then drive to Park City the next day.

You may be blown away by the scenery alone. That area is insane. Be sure to stop by the High West distillery in Park City if you're a whiskey drinker.

If the ice castles are still up (unlikely after February) drive to midway for the Crater hot springs and ice castles

We are going to ski either 3 or 4 days, this is on top of that. Seems unlikely there’s nothing else to do?

For example, I know there’s sledding/ tubing.

Yeah, but you could do all that in Park City, was my point.

Salt Lake is a great town, I wasn't trying to knock it. In fact, I may be moving there in the next year or so. But there isn't much "vacation/touristy" appeal IMO. Other than Mormon history. And looking at 360° mountain views.

It's worth spending your first/last day there to eat a few good meals and check out downtown a little. Most of the lake itself is toxic, stinky, and full of flies. I have never been to Antelope Island, but it does seem pretty cool.

I have been to the ice castles and would recommend, especially with kids. But it's in Heber City, which is closer to Park City.

Woodward is closer to Park City than Salt Lake. I'd be in the "just go stay in Park City" crowd.

We had a late flight out of SLC and saw what we wanted to see in SLT in one afternoon (not much). Spent the rest of the time skiing/in PC. I've got a full write up if you're interested

Good stuff, I appreciate. Pretty much unanimous that SLC is pretty boring in the winter outside of the mountains I guess…we booked a reservation that’s 7 days Sat to Sat and probably only ski 3 days or maybe shortly for a 4th. So I’ll have plenty of time to figure out stuff to do.

We did a curling class at the Olympic rink. It was cool if you’ve never done that.

I also really enjoyed an organ recital in the Tabernacle. Highly recommend.

We also did a minor league baseball game (obviously not an option in the winter) but maybe look at the Jazz or their minor league hockey team?

Also toured an outdoor statue garden that was really weird. But cool. Not sure what it’s be like in the cold:

Not the best ballpark, but certainly the best backdrop in all of baseball. Great place to take in a game.
