Is it worth the extra money to do the underground tour? We will be going first week of June after a cruise. I know its gonna be hot but won't be able to do it til the afternoon. Just wondering if its worth just doing the regular tour with arena floor vs underground.

In my opinion, yes it is.

Also consider there is an "underground" excavation you can peruse from the street between there and the Piazza de Venezia. I think it's on Via Allessandria, and it was lit up at night. A five minute walk, if you walk slow. The Colosseum was underwhelming as hell, after being in and around Tiger Stadium so often.

See as much as you can for as much as you can spend.

How often do you go to Italy? It is probably worth the extra effort

I did find the Colosseum outdated and badly in need of renovation.

Whichever tour you take, there is no reason to book in advance. The whole neighborhood is full of storefront tour shops happy to sell to you. After finding a very long line at the Coliseum, we bought discounted tickets from a young Irish guy hawking them on the street. I was concerned about being scammed, but the tour by a licensed Italian guide was great. Tours skip the entrance lines.

I understand.
Seeing the Parthenon was no big deal after seeing the replica in Nashville.

I go to Vegas to see the Eiffel Tower.

I did the underground portion and we had a tour that took us to the "upper deck." I found it to be worthwhile.

Those 2 shouldn't even be compared.

It was sarcasm.

True story:
I rode the gondola with a girlfriend at The Venetian in LV.
Six years later I was in Venice, Italy and didn’t take a gondola ride because I was traveling solo, and told myself,”Well, you should do this with a girl, and besides, you’ve already kinda done it in Vegas.” (Not to mention it would have been very expensive)
Not one of my brighter moments.
