4 of us are going on an Alaskan cruise next August. We want to fly first class from ATL or Nashville to Fairbanks, and then from Vancouver back to ATL/Nashville. Should we book now, or will we likely save some money if we wait a little while?

There is no secret sauce for this. You can sign up for apps that track that and gives best advice. But still a crap shoot.

The real answer is, the best time to book flights is when you are comfortable with the price. Figure your budget and book when it hits.

Generally speaking if you aren’t using points there’s no reason to book flights more than 90-120 days out unless you find a deal. Airline deals are generally in the 75-125 day mark and usually get more expensive from there on in. I don’t know Alaska well but that’s a busy time of year for the northwest so I wouldn’t wait until last minute, but I also don’t see a reason to book them before the spring unless you catch a deal. But it’s fairly rare to catch major deals more than 6-7 months out just because there’s really no reason for airlines to be in a hurry to book up.

By no means am I an expert but I have been tracking Delta flights to Fairbanks and back for a while. It seems the best time to book is when flight first release. Remember there are only a handful of First Class tix so you're less likely to see them go "on sale" as it gets closer to your trip.

Sounds like we're taking similar trips next August.

I've never "booked" a first class ticket on a domestic flight but been upgraded a few times. From my flight tracking I've never noticed that much of a change in prices for premium tickets. And even if those prices do fluctuate, I"m not sure $150 will make that much of a difference on a $2500 round trip ticket. If yall want to sit together I would go ahead and book when the seats go on sale.

Ok.......i'm in the business.
There is NO good time......other than early.

The more seats sold the worse the prices. Domestic Or Intl or 1st or coach.

You will pay more for the last seat on the plane than the 1st sold. Trust me............I see it every single day for the last 29 years.

as soon as I know I’m going somewhere I book the flights…all I care about is getting on the non stop if there is one

I hate flying and I hate airports so I’ll trade money for less time at/on either

Since your dates are inflexible, there’s not much you can do that will make a difference. Normally I’d suggest you use the fare calendar on Google Flights to find out if you can save money by going a day earlier, etc.

Not sure what route you’re flying, but I don’t doubt the ATL/MSP leg is going to be expensive and packed.

Got it booked. Doing Nashville to Fairbanks (through Seattle) with Delta and then Vancouver back to Nashville through Chicago with United.
