Portugal and Morocco trip recommendations

I'm starting to plan a trip next April to Portugal and Morocco. Tentative plans in Portugal are for Porto and Lisbon. Morocco are Marrakesh, Casablanca, Rabat, and Fez. Are there any other towns in Portugal worth adding for a day trip or overnight stay? Any changes you would make to the Morocco stops? Replace one of those with Tangiers or any other town? I'm starting to read books and research. Any recs on things to do or places to stay would be much appreciated. I've already done pretty much all of Spain so no need to recommend stopping there.

Sintra is absolutely lovely. I went to Cabo da Roco which is the furthest European point into the Atlantic Ocean. Palace of Pena was unique as well being brightly colored and all.
Make sure you check the Monastery dos Jeronimos and Torre de Belem

Went to Marrakesh, Fez, Chefchaouen and about 4 hours in Tangier before ferrying to Spain. Can’t say much about the latter.
Marrakesh was by far my favorite. Didn’t venture outside of the main market at night. Very unique place. Did a day trip to the Atlas Mountains, rode a camel, and got to learn about the Berber culture. Was one of my favorite things I did on the whole trip.
Chefchaouen was fantastic, but you only need a full day and a night. We stayed 2 nights and I felt like 1 was enough.
Only stayed a night in Fez, so not much to say about that. Casablanca is the one place we wanted to go that we didn’t make it to.
Hope this helps your plans. I was tentative before traveling there, but very happy I did.

Was in Portugal for a week last year. Did Porto, Lisbon and a couple of days in the Douro River Valley plus a day trip to Sintra. Loved all of it . Douro Valley is a sleeper, just amazing

If for some reason you have to skip any of those cities, don't feel bad if you skip Casablanca and Rabat.

Stayed at penha longa ritz Carlton in sintra for a wedding. It’s beautiful. We also stayed at the 7 hotel in Lisbon. Portugal is awesome. I never thought I would love sardines and olives. Now I do.

Id skip Casablanca. Not very interesting. Replace it with Tangiers

Thanks, that was one of my big question, what stops in Morocco to make. Would Marrakesh, Fez, and Tangiers be the best 3 stops? Skip Casablanca and Rabat?

We did Morocco and it has been one of our favorite trips. We stayed is Marrakech for a week and then went and did a “Sahara Desert” tour that was a 5 night round trip tour into the desert.
We stayed at the Sofitel in Marrakech and it was awesome. Easy to walk to the sooks, safe, clean, and luxurious.
We did the Atlas adventure, rode in hot air balloons, shopped, did hammams, took a cooking class, shopped. It was a great time and the people there were very friendly.

I will second the Sintra recommendations for your Portugal trip, thought I'd consider giving it more than a day trip since traffic getting around Sintra is awful. April will probably be a lot lighter though, since my experience was in July.
We did 1.5 days and saw Quinta de Regaleira, the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, and Monserrate Palace.
In Porto, make sure to do a tour/tasting at a port lodge. We did Graham's with a reservation at their onsite restaurant afterwards. Spring for the higher end tasting since it's not much more and the quality increases exponentially. Got completely obliterated and missed everything we had planned for the rest of the day.
In Lisbon, make sure to stop by Pasties de Belem. It will be an absolute madhouse, but it is worth it. It's right near Belem Tower, Padrao dos Descobrimentos, and Jeronimos Monastery, so it would be easy to make a stop before/after checking out those attractions.

I spent about a month in Morocco a couple years ago.
Fez was by far my favorite part of the trip. One of the coolest and most unique places I’ve ever been. I absolutely hated Marrakech, mostly because I had already been to Fez and it was a huge letdown after seeing that. Way more touristy, cars in the Medina etc. Thankfully was only there a couple nights on the way to the Sahara, which I would highly recommend.
Moulay Idris was my second favorite part of the trip. Only spent 2 nights there, which was enough, but we were the only foreigners in town. Great food, Roman ruins were cool, and the way they built that town on the mountain was amazing.
Chefchaoun and Essaouira were both enjoyable. Lot of the Instagram crowd at both.
I had a great time in both Casablanca and El Jadida even though neither are really “tourist” spots. Probably why I liked them so much. Highly recommend the Mosque tour in Casablanca. Amazing food in that city as well. Wouldn’t go out of the way to El Jadida but if you’re passing through on the train, the Portuguese cistern is worth the time. Speaking of the train, great way to travel around.
Bottom line, do not miss Fez, and don’t sacrifice time in Fez for Marrakech. If you’re more adventurous, definitely check out Moulay Idriss and some of the smaller towns in the mountains. Happy to answer any specific questions in lieu of more semi coherent rambling.
