Portland is awesome. Great beer and food scene, and very scenic as well.
Breweries:
Maine Brewing Co. (technically in Freeport about 10 minutes away)
Allagash
Bissell Brothers
Rising Tide
There are plenty of others but those would be my biggest recommendations, particularly Bissell Brothers.
For food:
Otto pizza is really good (get the one with mashed potatoes and scallions - I know it sounds weird but it's amazing.)
Eventide might be the best seafood restaurant I've ever gone to.
Duckfat is supposed to be amazing, haven't had the chance to go yet though.
The downtown area is really walkable and has a lot of shops and stuff. You can also do a whale watching tour.
I'm a big fan of Portland. Enjoy!

Personally found the mashed potato pizza to be over hyped. Their pepperoni pizza was excellent, as was the meatball appetizer. Pai Men Miyake is really good ramen. Empire had delicious soup dumplings and a candied pork entree that was amazing. The hotdogs at The Thirsty Pig were excellent. Becky's Diner is a great old school greasy spoon (their pies are huge). Eventide is great as advertised. Be sure to try and find Lincoln's for cheap stiff drinks. And drink plenty of Bissell Brothers.

You can always check the schedule to see if the Sea Dogs (Double A- Red Sox) will be in town. Depending on the team and day of the week you could probably find some cheap tickets.

This is a good piece of advice. It's actually a really enjoyable way to enjoy a nice summer day. It's amazing being able to sit in the sun for hours and not break a sweat.

Blasphemy!
Actually, truth be told the only time I had it was after visiting many, many breweries, so I think anything was going to taste amazing at that point.

Ogunquit is a cool little town.
You can swing by the Bush compound in Kennebunkport.
Is it Flo's Hot dogs they all go crazy at that's in a little shack? Food wasn't memorable to me but cool to see all the people who summer there getting together.

Always wanted to see the tide change at the Bay of Fundy. Although that's probably several hours from Portland.

Acadian NP, sea kayaking out of Bar Harbor, hiking Appalachian trail, clam chowder, lobster, etc.

If you make it down to Kennebunkport area (not far from Portland), Nunan's Lobster Hut is a must on the list, opens at 5, line is out the door by then! Check out Cape Neddick lighthouse, awesome views.
Old Orchard Beach as well, Jersey vibe there.

Wife and i went up that way about 3 years ago, during the winter actually. Went see the cape Needdick Lighthouse, and did that whole scenic drive and stopped at a bunch of places along it, all the little towns on the coast. SHe's been begging to go back. I actually have a framed panoramic picture of that lighthouse hanging in front of me right now in my office. It's covered in snow, and it's beautiful.
I've had lobster in Louisiana, and was never a fan of it.
We ate at Nunan's, wasn't very crowded, but the lobster was awesome. Wasn't chewy or bland like what i had always eaten before. To be honest, we ate lobster almost everywhere we went while up there, and loved it. So much better tasting than whatever you get from restaraunts around here, and i'm not talking about Red Lobster.

I spent two summers in Maine
Its beautiful, weather is great, awesome outdoor spots
Freeport is a great town (Where LL Bean is)
Acadia National Park
Portland it a really cool bay town with some decent food for New England
Tons of awesome lakes
New Hampshire is really close as well with some great spots to hang out
Im trying to remember all the places we went but its one of my favorite places
If you go to Freeport, go to Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster Company (LINK )
We went there several times and got huge lobsters with clams and corn on the cob for less than $20. They pull the lobsters right off the boat so they're able to sell them for cheap
It was also BYOB when we went (may still be) so we'd show up with an ice chest and have a blast

At some of the places in the little coastal towns, the boats pull right up to the dock and it's fresh lobster everywhere.

Went this past summer and it was great. The wife really didn't want to go but ended up loving it and wants to go back. Definitely do Kennebunk/ Kennebunkport. Seabrook, New Hampshire is great as well. Very pleasant summer weather but you'll probably want to take a light jacket.
In Portland be sure to see the famous Portland Head Light (get a lobster roll from a food truck) and Two Lights State Park.
Didn't have time to get to Acadia NP and surrounding area but that's on the list for next time.

Some good advice already. A couple of my favorites for dinner are fore street and central provisions. You will want to get a reservation for fore street a month or so in advance.
Novare res is a great beer bar.
Bissel brothers is the best brewery in New England but Maine Beer company in Freeport is worth the drive.

Insert Trump “Wrong” gif here.
Bissell Brothers is great, and I enjoy going when I’m in Portland, but in all of New England it’s barely top 5.
1. Hill Farmstead
2. Treehouse
3. Trillium
4. Bissell Brothers
5. Alchemist
And frankly there are a lot of micro breweries in New England that you could argue belong in the top 5 over BB.

Haha! I should have said in my opinion.
You can’t go wrong with any of those, except tree house because I’m not waiting three hours to get two four packs.
I spend the most time at night shift because it’s closest to us and they do amazing work.
