Parking fees at hotels around French Quarter?

Do you pay the $50+ per night for parking at hotels around the French Quarter or do you have parking areas close by for less?

It’s obscene. I pay it just for the convenience but definitely feel violated.

thats the going rate for valet at almost all hotels in the area
I usually find a lot somewhere to park myself, even for the same money
I hate having to wait for a valet to get my vehicle at checkout time

I use valet exclusively. Just easier and less hassle. Yeah it's expensive, but what isn't anymore?

If you're driving in I guess you need to park. I always feel bad when out of town visitors pick up their SUV rental at the airport, pay that much a night to park it at the hotel downtown or in the quarter, only to find out they can walk everywhere, take the streetcar, or Uber. Maybe you end up paying that much to take an Uber from the airport and then back (but you're paying for the rental too).
I don't think I've paid that the last time we drove in a couple of years ago. Stayed at the Drury. It was maybe $30 for a van.

It’s not just for overnight.
Parking is a problem at all times. We don’t go to dinner in the French Quarter nearly as much as we used to largely because parking is such an ordeal.

Have any of you had any issues parking in an uncovered lot overnight? Seems you could save about half the cost.
