Planning a trip to NYC in December, but we don’t know what area to stay or where to stay. Recommendations appreciated. Budget friendly!

Not being a dick and trying to manage your expectations, but good luck.

I'd recommend looking at Airbnb or VRBO and not a hotel.

I'm going in mid december and looking for hotels as well, and i can't find anything decent for under $300/nt unless i don't want to stay in Manhatten.

Yeah it's pricey. We're in midtown in a few weeks but the best deals, by far, were lower manhattan and especially the financial district.

There is a Hilton Garden Inn across the East River in Long Island City, Queens. I have stayed there several times when I didn’t want to pay Manhattan prices. It is only a few years old and located 1/2 block from the Queens Plaza subway station where you can take the E train and be in Manhattan in 10 minutes. Check your dates on the Hilton site. I’m thinking it would be less than $200/night during most of December.

You can access this hotel easily from JFK (Airtrain from terminal to Jamaica where you connect with NYC subway and take E to Queens Plaza) and LGA (Laguardia Link bus to Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave Station and take E to Queens Plaza). Using the subway for airport transfers saves a ton of money. Newark is a different story.

The wife and I stayed at the Park Lane Hotel right across from Central Park not too long ago.

For the kind of hotel it was, I thought it was a pretty good price performer.

December will be much more expensive though, no matter what hotels you're looking at.

Check rates at Hotel Beacon in UWS. This is our go to (actually here now for Thanksgiving). You can get a large suite for the same price as a normal hotel room in Midtown, 5-10 min walk to Natural History Museum / Central Park & you’re next to the 72nd St station which has express service to Times Square.

Hotel Beacon

I saw Michael Jackson walk into The Beacan Theater in 1995 when he was rehearsing his HBO special that never aired. It was literally 15 minutes before he collapsed.

My go to hotel is The Pennsylvania Hotel. It's not the nicest but I don't spend much time in the hotel. Its across from Penn Station so it's easy to get anywhere and it is usually on the cheap compared to other hotels.

Another place I have stayed is the Row NYC. Usually pretty cheap and close to Times Square and Rudy's.

Give the Lexington a shot. It is usually cheaper than most. Plus you get Mariott points.

I'm currently sitting in the living room of our Kimberly hotel room. It's an all suite hotel, fantastic location and incredible accommodations including a covered rooftop bar. We got it for $290/night. By far the cheapest 2 room suit you can find. Adjustable beds, heated floors in the bathroom. We won't stay anywhere else from now on.

I stayed at the Paper Factory Hotel in Long Island Queens and it was pretty reasonable ($170/nt). It is across from the subway station and I believe 2 stops from Manhattan.

I think you will like it there. Even though you are not in Manhattan, I find the location very convenient. There are elevated train tracks outside but the windows are completely soundproof.

Good Brazilian Steakhouse at the Holiday Inn down the Street.

One thing I want to mention, if you use the subway at Queens Plaza, exit where it says Northern Blvd/41st Ave NW. This puts you right at the hotel. If you exit elsewhere you will have to cross over multi lanes of traffic going up to the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan and it’s a pain in the butt.

I don’t know how extensively you plan to use the subway (I use it a lot. I buy a 7-day unlimited Metrocard and it pays for itself after 2 days) but there is the Queensboro Plaza Station (not to be confused with Queens Plaza) a few blocks away where you can take the 7 train into Manhattan as well.

I'm a Hilton Honors Diamond member, but even before that I would stay at the Hampton Inn Times Square North. It is a good location in Manhattan, near the subway, but still able to walk to Times Square. It is usually a bit cheaper than boutique hotel options in NYC.
