Seasonal service on Air Transat (Canadian carrier) beginning in November / December 2019. Google flights starting to show up with very reasonable airfare ~$258.

ETA: This is international destination #8 or #9 for MSY.

I'm especially happy to hear this, as Montreal is on my travel destination short list for next year.

So I checked on Google Flights and they had a bunch of flights in November and December.

Checked a few minutes later and they were almost all gone.

Odd. I'll check back in a few months and see what it looks like.

Also, doing a seasonal service in the winter seemed really odd to me, and then it dawned on me it was probably more for Canadians to come here than the other way around.

What’s there to do in Montreal? I’ve been wondering this ever since one of my professors randomly took a weekend trip there about 15 years ago.

I have not been but planned a trip a few years ago that never materialized.

There's quite a bit to do there in the spring, summer and early fall, not as much in the winter.

It is just a beautiful, older city with a lot of culture, you get to experience what feels like a completely different world since everyone is speaking French but you're in North America, some nice parks, beautiful churches, and old town, etc.

Some really good restaurants like Joe Beef.

And some of the best strip clubs in the world if you're into that sort of thing.

It's a great hip, european city but only a 3-4 hour flight away. Great food scene and really laid back vibe. their "old town" is meh but you can go to Quebec City for that.

That I am. Not to cheapen this board but we can use a little more feedback on the talent on trips.

Is it direct or non-stop?

direct

3 hours, 25 minutes

Edit: My bad, I really wasn't reading your question and was tired when I posted this. It is indeed non-stop

It is a nonstop flight. For those of you who don't know the difference, a direct flight might stop along the way, but you wouldn't have to change planes and you keep the same flight number. Southwest sells a lot of direct tickets.

So, this headline is technically incorrect. It is a nonstop flight to YUL.

But that really should've been obvious.

We went in July and it was over run with tourists. So much so that you could barely walk around. If they would ban cars from Old Town it would give people more room and make the experience much better.

I last went in August of '17 and it wasn't bad at all. I ran all over town without much problem.

I would admit as a tourist it would be better without cars.

I had the same thought. A direct flight to Montreal during the summer would be a great way to escape the summer heat for a long weekend.
ATL, DFW, IAH all have direct flights, so catching a connecting flight out of MSY is easy.

I imagine if it proves to be a popular route for New Orleanians they will do it in the Summer, but for now it appears to be designed for Canadians.

Of course, since it's a Canadian carrier, they are expecting most of their customers to be Canadian.

But, if you want to ski, it's less than an hour and a half drive from YUL airport to Mont Tremblant.

And for those of you talking about connecting to Quebec City, that place is so pretty in the winter. The ice hotel is crazy -- even if you don't stay the night, you should go see it and a have a drink at the bar (your glass is a block of ice, naturally).

I haven't been for their Carnaval, but it's supposed to be epic, with sleigh races, ice canoe races in the river, an outdoor amusement park, and snow sculpture contests. I've always thought that, after our own parties in South Louisiana and those of Rio, it would be the most interesting destination for that holiday. If you want to see some real craziness, do a Google Image search of the bain de neige that happens as part of the party.

MSY had non stop to Montreal a few years ago (year Ellen hosted the Oscars) Wife and I flew up after work, the Thursday before Mardi Gras, and drove the next morning to Stowe Mountain Vermont for a few days of skiing. Then drove back & spent a few days in Montreal.
