What would you consider to be the top five most iconic world landmarks? They can be made made (such as the Eiffel Tower or Golden Gate Bridge) or natural (such as Niagara Falls or the Matterhorn).

Hard to disagree with any of those.

To second tier I'll add Stonehenge (very close to top 5), Big Ben, Sydney Opera House, Mount Fuji, Yosemite Valley, Angkor Wat, Hollywood sign, the Acropolis, Christ the Redeemer (Rio), Rock of Gibraltar. Hagia Sophia.

Hmmmm...interesting topic! I'll combine mine, and not in this order necessarily. Just in terms of what I liked the most, top of the mind.

Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatia)
Vintgar Gorge (Slovenia)
Colosseum (Rome Italy)
Mt. Fuji (Japan)
Picos de Europa (Asturias, Spain)

I thought about some more that were really unique as well like Dachau (Germany), The Acropolis (Athens, Greece), Olympic Peninsula (Washington), Lugano (Swizterland), La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona, Spain).

Tough to make just one list.

I think statue of liberty falls on the top 5 most recognizable list, because of America's influence in movies/TV even though its less impressive than the others.

Grand Canyon should be added to the list of natural landmarks.

10 for the entire world is tough...

1) Taj Mahal
2) Golden Gate Bridge
3) Great Wall of China
4) Eiffel Tower
5) St Peter's Basilica
6) Leaning Tower of Pisa
7) Alcatraz Island
8) London Tower Bridge
9) Notre Dame de Paris
10) Pyramids of Giza

That's just a rough top ten of man-made landmarks. I feel pretty bad for leaving off places like Christ The Redeemer, Sydney Opera House, The Coliseum, Hungarian Parliment, Duomo Cathedral, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Sofia Haggia, Statue of Liberty, Sagrada Familia, Mosque of Cordoba, Angkor Wat, Plaza de Espana, Big Ben, etc.

Went to Petra about 20 years ago while in the military. Was an awesome place but it's in the middle of nowhere and even then it was prostituted out like crap. So sad to to see people selling your name made in a bottle of sand and selling camel rides. Hate to think how bad it is now.

Maybe I missed it...

But I would add Red Square in Moscow and the Petronas Towers

Places I have seen and was amazed by (not all good amazed)...

Macchu Picchu - still think about this place all the time..the engineering was incredible

Red Square - as a kid growing up in the 80s...the Cold War was everything. To be able to walk it and see the names that scared so many was chilling.

Killing Fields - In Cambodia I could not then or now reconcile how nice the people were and what I saw. So exhuasting.

Christ the Redeemer - whether looking up at it, or down from the statue itself
