Flying out next week & will be there for a week. Have whale watching & luau booked & driving road to Hana but other than that we are open. Staying in Kaanapali.

Have been to Oahu & Kaua’i but first trip to Maui. Daughter will be with us so not planning on any high end meals. Any suggestions for activities would be appreciated. Have heard about watching sunrise from Haleakala but right now we are leaning towards not doing that.

I'm also flying out to Maui early next week. Interested in replies. We have snorkeling Molokini and turtle town also booked.

You absolutely need to do a bike ride down the volcano.

Did it twice. Once with a guide, once without. Much prefer the self guided tour.

30+ mile bike ride of which you have to pedal maybe half a mile.

Molokini is pretty underwhelming. It looks cool but it’s not that great.

DEFINITELY eat at Mama’s Fish House and The Millhouse.

Both spectacular meals, among the best I’ve had anywhere. However, Mama’s crazy expensive. Just be prepared but very much worth it.

We did the Molokini and on the way out it was basically a free whale watching tour as well

You snorkel Molokini and the coral and fish and then move over towards the coast and swim with the sea turtles. I would highly recommend it.

You might save some money on the whale watching tour this way, plus you can see the whales from a distance from Kannapali hotel we stayed at.

That's a mistake IMO

How old?

The suggestions differ greatly if the daughter is 21, 18, 10 or 5

Mamas is great but if you don't want high end meals, its out. Road to Hana is great but it's a LONG day for small kids. Haleakala is awesome and I would definitely suggest riding down but thats not doable if your kid is probably under 12 or so.

Completely agree. I recommend using Maui Easy Riders for both this tour as well as the road to Hanna. You do not want to drive this yourself and worry about finding each site along the way.

Maui Easy Riders are a couple of local guys who are reasonably priced. They know the area very well and can cater the tours to what you want to see and make great recommendations. I would 100% use them again if I went back to Maui.

Yeah I would skip Haleakala as well personally. Was not worth it at ALL to me.

We did the road to hana as well, booked it with some tour company, it was much better taking in all the views and letting someone else do the driving.

We stopped at some hole in the wall for lunch which was a neat experience and it ended up at a winery at the end before they dropped us off back at our hotel.

If you are in Kaanapali you are not too far from the Nakale blowhole. and the cliff dive ceremony at the Sheraton. There are also restaurants on the beach path at Whalers Village.

Order this off Amazon, it's a must-have and is good reading on the flight. I beleive they now also have an app.

Hang out in Lahaina, check out the art dealers on front street, it's the third largest collection of fine art for sale in the world besides paris and new york. Eat at Paia fish market on front street, get the big obama (best fish sandwich i had in hawaii, it's not on the menu). Lahaina grill is I believe the top rated restaurant out of all the hawaii islands and maybe top 100 in the US if you want fine dining. Go to Kimo's for Hula pie, best desert on the island. It's a sister restaurant to Duke's.

Yeah, already have the guide book. Didn’t know about the app though so I’ll have to check that out.

On the road to Hana, did anyone use an app or set out with a set plan for places to stop?
