Heading to Maui this Saturday. Gonna have 8 full days on the ground.

Staying in Wailea and have an SUV rented for the whole time. GF and I, 26 and 27.

What are some of the must-dos apart from Road to Hana and Halakela crater?

We are looking to do the trilogy snorkeling trip. Its $205 pp. Has anyone done it before? Worth it?

We love the outdoors and are generally active. Also have experienced a Luau last time we were in Kauai. This is why, unless there is a special Luau that is highly recommended, may or may not do that.

Done the snorkeling in Maui about 4 months ago it was stunning and it was so beautiful. Just seeing all the native fish and turtles in their nature setting is awesome. While traveling to various spots to go snorkeling we saw pods of dolphins also. Enjoy your visit and take it all in. I am planning a return trip to Hawaii with the next 2 years. We plan on doing the big Island, return trip to Maui for snorkeling, back to the north Shore on Oahu for surfing, etc. Anyway :cheers

Flyin Hawaiian Zipline. Badass. Im not joking when I say on a couple ziplines you are 300'-400' above the valley between 2 ridges.

The Old Lahaina Luau is supposed to be really good. If you decide to do one, that's the top rated for sure.

I did a helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian, mostly because I wanted to experience a helicopter ride.

Go to Secret Beach also.

From a food standpoint, we really enjoyed Coconut Fish Cafe. It is between Wailea and Lahaina. Some of the best fish tacos you will eat.

For a nice meal, check out Lahaina Grill. It was our expensive meal during the trip and I did not regret it one bit.

If you find yourself in Paia (see my next paragraph) I recommend getting lunch at Flatbread Pizza. Get the goat cheese pizza made with the local goat cheese from Surfing Goat Dairy.

In addition, I highly recommend the bike tour down Haleakala with Maui Easy Riders. You ride in a van up to the summit and bike down with two tour guides and a small group of other visitors. Along the way they will point out interesting wildlife and you stop in two small towns which are fun and unique in their own right (Makawow and Paia -- spelling is likely off Makawow).

Do a self guided bike ride down the mountain.

Did it once with a guided tour and once self guided. Much more enjoyable stopping where you wanted, for how long you wanted.

Just go to Black Rock Beach and snorkel off the beach around the black rock. Will see great fish and sea turtles. Bamboo forest was awesome as well as seeing the sunrise on top the volcano. Got to make the drive up really really early though. Worth it.

Download the shaka guide app for the road to hanna. I'm just going to warn you about the road to hanna, but it is a long, long day. I'm glad to do it once, but i dont know if it is worth it honestly.

Nothing. Build in time to do nothing but lie on the beach and sip some drinks. A place like Kaanapali will have bars and restaurants right on the beach or there are more secluded beaches too. Bring your own mask to snorkel.

Initially I thought mama's fish house would be a tourist trap but it was well worth it.

I would not try to do Road to Hana in one day. It's a grueling trip. Do half one day then the latter half another day. Coming back from a whole day exhausted and fighting the traffic back will ruin the experience.

eta: Ululani shaved Ice. We had it daily.

There's a boardwalk path that runs along the beach and coastline in Wailea. It's a convenient way to explore the different resorts and beaches in the area. You need to walk around the Grand Wailea pools. It's nice to be able to spend the morning on the beach in front of the Four Seasons and walk over to the Fairmont for lunch.

Past the Makena area to the east of Wailea is a cool lava field. There are hiking trails through the lava field and beach access to a rocky coastline with good snorkeling.

Been a couple times...here's my two cents
1) gotta do road to Hana and the things along the drive. Drive it but don't be in a rush to get back before it gets dark. It's much safer than in the past
2) fish tacos.. anywhere you get them will be good
3) Old Lahaina Luau if you do one
4) we stumbled on a place called China Bowl..great hole in the wall but great food
5) So many great things to do outside in great weather
beautiful island. Enjoy your time there. A week will fly by

Too late but for Maui I strongly recommend:

- Maui Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook (awesome book outlining all of the must-see/must-do's on the island)

- Hit up Costco near the airport and stock up on booze, fruit, macadamia nuts, Kona coffee, boardshorts, towels, snorkeling gear, sunscreen, etc.
