Choosing only one, which city is better for a quick 4 day trip?

that depends on your interests... having lived in London and spent ample time in Paris, I'm going with Paris.

I think it would depend on interests and travel experience.
However I think Paris would win almost all head-to-head matchups for me

I've only been to both once. I really like London, but honestly it's like US east, with a slightly different culture, whereas with Paris you are actually experiencing a different culture for a few days.
All else equal assuming you could get there on a direct flight, i'd probably say Paris.

I personally enjoy Paris A LOT more than London. Not really close, at least for me.

Ooh, that’s a tough choice. I like both cities quite a bit: lots of good food in both places, great history, museums....interesting architecture, .
I’d give the edge to Paris, but I’m fairly fluent in French.
My spouse would say London, hands down, as his French isn’t really up to conversational level. London offers theater, etc in English.
It’s kind of a wine vs beer choice. Both are great, which do you like better?

Do you ever encounter Parisians who refuse to speak to you in French?

For a 4 day trip, London.
I am an enormous Francophile, but I did a long weekend in London a few years ago and thought it was a great quick trip. Paris, I want to have a week or more to get into the rhythm, language, and vibe of a great city.
For go, go, go London better fit.

Depends on what you mean by refuse.....my accent is Lafourche Parish plus Quebequois imparted by a string of teachers over HS and college. The minute I open my mouth, they know I’m not Parisienne. Some ppl will respond in English, but I don’t take it personally, and it’s likely because they’ve just heard me speaking in English to my spouse. I’ve found the French mostly interested in their LA cousins, and it’s a great ice breaker with the fairly reserved French.
I had a good time in Normandy, where my AirBnB host told me I sounded like “Les vieux” who speak the Norman dialect. Cajuns def still use some Norman words.
Back to London vs France: agree w BO that London is better suited to a quickie trip.

I spent four days in each city a couple months ago.
Definitely Paris.

Been to each twice, and I like London a lot more. I probably won't go back to Paris unless it is to spend at least a month.

Both are amazing but I'd go with Paris given how walkable it is, the unique cuisine/culture, and pretty good transit. London is no slouch either

Paris, without a doubt.
