Las Vegas - New Year's
Hey guys, I will be going to Las Vegas for New Years with my wife and parents. We will be staying for four nights at the Hilton Grand Vacation. I am looking for any recommendations/tips that y'all can give.

The plan is to rent a car and do trips from LV in the morning and early afternoons and be back into LV in the late afternoon and nights. We'd like to see a show a night if we can.

I have done some research and have a few things highlighted:

Absinthe - Comes highly suggested from the few Travel Board threads I have found on LV.

Fremont Street - Excited to explore downtown LV. While we are there I know we will do the Fremont Street Experience. I'd also like to explore the Golden Nugget some. Further, thoughts on SlotZilla? I'm not a big zipline person, but it's something my family will probably want to do.

Mob Museum - If there is a must-do on this trip it is to go to the Mob Museum.

Neon Museum - Is this worth it? It looks like it'd be something cool to do and the reviews are pretty good.

High Roller - Thoughts on this? Seems expensive.

Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire State Park - Both seem like they'd be really great parks to explore.

Grand Canyon - Before we started planning this trip, I thought that a trip to the Grand Canyon would be a given. After doing research I'm not so sure. From what I have read, the south rim is the "true" Canyon experience and that the west rim does not compare. With the south rim being five hours away, it's not something we will do for a day trip and I hate to go to the west rim to just check it off the bucket list. Thoughts? Is the west rim worth it for a day, or should we save our Canyon experience for when we can give it the time it deserves. No-one in our group has ever seen the Grand Canyon.

Hoover Dam - I haven't done any research, but we will do some type of tour of the Dam. Recommendations on tours?

I have a few questions:

Helicopter Ride over Grand Canyon: Has anyone ever done this and what were your thoughts? As I said above, as of today the plan is to not drive to the Canyon. However, a helicopter ride over the Canyon is something my wife and I have both wanted to do. Is it worth it from LV, or is this something we should wait to do when we can visit the south rim?

Casino's to Visit: I have the Bellagio (Fountains and Conservatory), Venetian, and Golden Nugget. What are some other must-see casino's?

Show Recommendations: Besides Absinthe, what are some other show's that ya'll suggest? I have seen Anthony Cools mentioned a few times on the Travel Board.

Trips from LV - What are the other day trips from LV that ya'll recommend besides Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park, and the Hoover Dam? I have done some research on Death Valley.

Early thanks for any suggestions!

I thought Anthony Cools sucked. So did Ka. Michael Jackson One was good as was O and Mystere. High Roller we did during the day. Half price. Was ok. Fremont Street at night especially on weekends. We did Grand Canyon bus tour south rim. Glad we did but ate up most of a day. Haven’t been to MobMuseum or Neon but hope to. We did the Titanic exhibit at the Luxor. Really impressive. I am a history buff. They had a huge chunk of the hull in there.

Haven't read about a Titanic museum. Will be something my wife and I are both into.

#1 tip is DO NOT walk the strip. It’s an absolute shite show, especially on New Year’s Eve.

Mt. Charleston has some nice scenery and great temps. You can stop by Corn Creek on the way and see the main part in an hour or less.

Beatles love is excellent. Freemont Street is a must. Also, since it is New Years I am sure there are gonna be some awesome concerts at that time. They are pricey but worth it. I would definitely get all show/concert tickets ASAP since they will surely sell out fast. While in Vegas I would consider using UBER. You can rack up a bill but it is worth it.
As for Grand Canyon, to be honest, I was disappointed. I wanted my day in Vegas back.

Will do some research on Mt. Charleston and Corn Creek. Thanks!

My wife is working on narrowing down the show/concert list. It'd be the wrong one if I booked it haha. I'll let her know about Beatles Love.

We will definitely be using Uber to get around LV, from what I have read parking is expensive and it'll be much easier getting around with an Uber. The price will be split somehow with my parents so that should help to keep the cost down.

I think the Grand Canyon would be something my wife and I would love. I'd hate for our first time seeing it to be rushed. Unless do the helicopter ride, I really do not see us going to the Canyon on this trip.

Let me Second. Do NOT go out on the Strip for NYE. I don’t mind crowds and love Mardi Gras in NOLA. The Strip on NYE is something else entirely. I will put it this way, most of the casinos lock the front doors to keep people out. When do you hear about casinos turning people away willingly?

re: Las Vegas - New Year's
My wife and I were in Vegas a few years ago for New Year's. It was crowded, but we didn't go on the strip much. We stayed at the Wynn which is a little north of the busy part of the strip. We saw Maroon 5 and Celine Dion, both shows were great.

We did a Grand Canyon helicopter tour with Sundance Helicopters. It was a cool experience. We flew for about 30-45 mins, landed in the canyon and had lunch then flew back. The pilot was very knowledgeable and showed us a lot of cool things on the flight. I will tell you that technically it is the Grand Canyon, but it's not the GC that you see in photos. It was neat to fly below the rim and all, but it is nothing like the Arizona GC.

All in all, it was a neat one time experience.

I through out the idea to my parents about not going to the GC on this trip and they shot it down. I think we are going to add a day to the trip and spend the night at the south rim.

Duly noted on the strip on NYE. We'll stay away.

If you are the adventurous types, the kayak trip of the black canyon from the base of Hoover Dam to willow beach is absolutely mind blowing. You can go guided if you want. 6 natural hot springs over first 5 miles.

Mt. Charleston is nice. The ski resort is a nice getaway and something to do. I went to Vegas at the end of June and they had snow still.

I have no clue why my recommendation to avoid the strip was downvoted.

Stay away at all costs (unless you are the type of extremely trashy individual that would enjoy the strip on nye).

Duly noted on avoiding the strip on NYE - we're not big party people and it wouldn't be our scene.
