First time in New York today. I need to get to the Financial District. Looks like taxi and uber are about the same price of you factor in tip (~$50-$60).

Suggestions?

I think so. The company funding my trip suggested it.

I honestly havent used Uber in the city yet(havent lived there in a few years)

However I am back there often and still resort to the tried and true, Taxi or Dial7

Took a trip to NY last month. We used taxi from LGA to hotel and Uber from hotel to LGA.

Uber was $15-20 cheaper and better experience. I would go Uber all the way.

Another cheap and easy option is to take the Q70 bus from LGA to the Roosevelt subway station in Queens. You can buy your subway/bus pass right there at the terminal. I did this two weeks ago and highly recommend. You have access to the E,F,M, & R routes there.

From what my wife has experienced there in the last few months, Uber is the way to go. I set her up with a Dial 7 reservation which was late and basically a prepaid shitty taxi. We never had bad experiences with Uber in Nola, but she had one in NY as the would be cabbies have an alternate option. Atleast with Uber there is recourse and tracking when the ride is unsatisfactory.

Do this and you won't end up smelling like curry and BO when you get downtown.

If there is a company funding your trip, why do you care?

A taxi will be easier, maybe $10 higher.

In my experience, you are better off taking a taxi as they know the city much better than uber drivers do.

I take uber/taxis in NYC probably close to 25 times a month to put things in perspective.

My work expenses the rides... they would prefer I have access to my phone in a car than not on a train.

Yes. You have to tell them where you are though.

And, Uber will be cheaper.

I've always used Dial7 black car service in NYC for airport transfers. Clean, on time, and flat rate so they don't mess around.

Some wording in the email made me worry the ride to and from the airport wasn't covered. "Only thing you're out of pocket for is your ride to and from the airport."

Later the email said save your receipts. Turns out is covered but I didn't want to risk paying more than I needed.

And you are correct about über possibly not know he city well. My driver cost $40 but it took an hour and a half to get from La Guardia to the Financial District. Everyone else with me said it took about 45 for them.
