I know Delta is considered top of the line, and United, JetBlue, Southwest, and American are generally considered mid-tier commonality carriers.

Just returned to ATL from a trip to Wisconsin. Flew into Chicago-Midway on Southwest and it was pleasant.

Return trip from O’Hare on American. Rude flight attendants, trashy fellow passengers, no TVs, WiFi broken, and they’re the only airline booking middle seats. Also suspended drink/snack service supposedly because of Covid, but everyone knows it really was done as a cost cutting measure.

I also should note that AA out of ORD was $40 cheaper than the Southwest or Delta flights out of MDW.

Is AA nearing Spirit and Frontier levels of trashy?

No. But I'd never fly them Delta and SW. With major hubs throughout the south only makes sense for me.

Didn’t even read your entire post...didn’t need to.

American sucks, has for years. Witnessed a flight attendant talk someone out of trying to get a job with AA.
But I’m in a hub city...so I’m stuck,with them

I fly American whenever I can. I have friends who work for them who get me passes to the VIP lounge and bump me up to first class when they can.

I don't think it's trashy, compared to a Spirit for example.

It's definitely a tier below Delta or SW. However, i've also had some decent experiences with them so I can't throw it all on them.

Not true. United is booking full rows as well.

I would pay extra to fly Delta over AA. They have a horrible reputation.

I fly lots. AMR can suck a fat one.

Few months ago they told us we were diverting from Charlotte hub to Knoxville, would have to refuel, due to storms. Turns out in my pocket I have a phone, with access to doppler, like we all do. No storms within 500 miles.

Worst part is they rebooked me, then un-booked that rebook because I didn't check in. While I was in the air on the first brokeass flight. I had some choice words for them.

AA and UA are definitely a tier below DL, WN and B6.

I'd pay a very slight premium for Delta over AA and United or fly Jet Blue if the route works out...but they are all about the same for the average flyer.

AA went down the tubes about 7 years ago when AA merged with US Airways. Seemed like we got the worst of both airlines (no in-flight entertainment on the "ghetto" US Airways A321s and the leadership from US Airways) and the result has been a terrible product and even worse customer service. Had flights cancelled, diverted flights from DFW-EGE back to Dallas (we were already over Denver...), lost luggage that took a week to get, etc. I flew spirit last year and had less issues than I did with AA.

Tier wise in my view-

1. Delta, Southwest, Jetblue
2. Alaska, United
3. American, Spirit, Frontier

I don't think i'd put Southwest in Tier1 but thats just me.

Oddly enough for the past 3 years i've flown nearly exclusively AA due to the ease of points acquisition.

American has the rudest, most arrogant flight attendants. They hate life. SW are mostly friendly & happy to be there.

Once you fly on tiger air in and out of Bangkok, every other airline feels ultra luxurious.

I used to travel for business primarily on AA in a smaller regional market. Always flew AA via DFW to get nearly anywhere in the country. ]

I really came to enjoy their service, especially with some status. My small regional hub had new planes and were always on time into DFW. Obviously some of the normal bullshite there, but for the most part, really good. Had some great flight attendants over the years as well.

The key to being treated well on most airlines today is to have status with them. I have a lot of miles with American and have been treated well and enjoy my experiences with them. Delta and United seem to get better reviews but when I fly those two airlines I am just another passenger.

I've never flown Delta because the two flights I've had with them were cancelled after we boarded- for technical errors. So booked flights with other airines later that same day.

I haven't flown AA in years, though. I remember their stewards being rude in the 1990s. Maybe they're just trained that way.

It's been Southwest and JetBlue for domestic flights, and I've never really had a problem with them, or any passengers.
