We are trying to book tickets to Turkey for May of next year and I am dumbfounded at the prices. We are well traveled through Europe and Turkey, even last year round trip was $1,200 through United, today for economy was $4,100 a ticket. I even went back twice to ensure the criteria I had selected was economy. It’s somewhat better through Turkish airlines, google flights has reasonable options but I have been burned by the travel agent sites in the past with cancellations/ rebooking etc. I guess I’m trying to figure out if anyone else has noticed similar direct through the US carrier? This isn’t even peak season and doesn’t include taxes and fees. Is this the new norm?

I booked flights to Italy a few weeks back through United for around $1300/each, if I recall. That said, other destinations that we looked at were completely insane. $5k to go to South Africa, $4500 to go to Thailand, all economy.

I looked back and saw that I had purchased the same Thailand flight through United back in late 2019 for like $790. That flight was cancelled due to Covid

Where are you flying out of? Looks like they are about $1200 from DFW or Houston.

You might find value in Going You select your home airport and they will send you an email when things get below the average price for a bunch of different places inside and outside of the US.

MSY. We will be traveling with a 15 month old… wanted it to be as seamless as possible but split itinerary may be worth it.

There's no normal. There's sub $600 flights to europe right now from now through the end of the month.

So its not price, its just the airlines trying to make money. As said, play round with airports and what not. Set a flight tracker, no reason to be in a hurry to book flights 75-125 days out is generally the best time for deals. They used to say 60-90 but I have found more deals further out and deals ending closer to 2 months out.

Jesus. I can’t imagine trying to take care of a 15 month old while suffering from the Turkey Tees.

Or trying to take care of said baby while he/she is suffering from Turkey Tees.

Good luck to you.

I'm assuming OP is married to someone from Turkey? He said he is been there before?

FYI if you have a good stewardess she may let you let the kid sleep on the floor. I'd strongly consider bringing a blanket or something to make that more sanitary and comfortable. Obviously keep safety in mind....

My wife has been melting for two months about international prices next year

We just went to Italy and are going back for a wedding and prices for direct flights are ludicrous.

If time or airline points are not a huge concern imo it is best to just fly to the city in Europe that has the cheapest ticket then book a flight from that airport since Euro airlines are so much cheaper.
