Got the auto-text yesterday afternoon, went ahead and called for the refund and booked a R/T with Delta from San Antonio. Cost a little more but IMO it's worth the peace of mind knowing I don't have to helicopter over my United app to see if my flight makes the cut

Thanks again Cuse

Didn't want to start a new thread...but I'm in Puerto Rico until Wednesday, but that hurricane looks like it's coming...seems like all the flights out sooner are sold out.

Am I absolutely screwed here? I assume I am.

Is there any services that set alerts when seats could become available on flights?

Expert flyer can alert you when seats become available. It's I think $10/month and the best service created to help in times of IRROPS (irregular operations). What airline are you flying? I will start a new thread once the waivers get posted for Irma

Thanks Cuse! My friend was on her flight and should be landing soon! I checked in right when it became available yesterday. Thank you again for your amazing help.

That is well worth the extra $$. Two cancellations and I'd be done too. Not a problem to help

Thanks for your help. I'll be on the look out for the weekend the thread.

Are you flying to Houston or Nola? Also just you or you + 1? You're right, everything on southwest is completely booked out of San Juan through next wednesday. If it comes to it, book a one-way on another airline to get out of there and take the refund from southwest. You don't want to be in puerto rico during a cat 4 hurricane, sounds like a nightmare

ETA: As of current, it looks like the storm wont make its way over puerto rico until Thursday or Friday of next week. I hope your flight out is early Wednesday

I still havent heard from United so I submitted the refund request through their website.

So they rebooked me for Monday but my original travel dates were through Sunday so I couldn't do that. Should I cancel my reservation or wait for refund process to handle it all? It gave me the option when I logged on to accept or decline the change so I did decline before initiating the refund request

any thoughts here Cuse?

Request another call back. How long did the first call say you would have to wait? I'm guessing it was a few hours

You did everything that I would've done. Deny the change and request a refund. Wait for someone to call and just double with them that everything went through properly

not an exact time frame, just said wait time "over 30 mins"

that was about 4 hours ago now

pretty much what I was thinking. Thanks for making me feel better about it. This has my anxiety up

I am on the road and can't look through the thread thoroughly right now is the warning I have from Southwest something they're just giving everyone?

I can't imagine my nonstop flight from LAX to MSY would be affected by the storm...?

Unless you want to change your flight to one at 6:50am arriving at 12:40pm, I'd keep your flight. The warning is basically just saying you can change your ticket if you want to another day or time

Spirit is selling 2 seats on their san juan-ft lauderdale-tampa flights for tuesday leaving at 440pm. Everything on southwest is completely full out of san juan, ive looked at all options for tuesday and theres just nothing as of current. Pray the storm takes its time and hits there thursday

Okay good. I'll admit, with that 14 day window I was tempted to change it for 14 days from now and stay here and hide from the storms coming next week. Ha.

My flight from jxn to houston for today was on the waiver list but i wanted a refund bc i have no other trips planned. I sat on hold an hour and half tuesday waiting to speak to a United rep. After 45 minutes of trying to calmly explain that regardless of whether United had cancelled my flight, my trip was cancelled. My friends house is surrounded by water, NrG stadium cancelled the game. I have nowhere to go and dont plan on travel via plane in the next year, i asked to speak to supervisor and she kept saying super was on phone. I lost it after 20 more minutes of runaround and melted down on the girl. I got a refund.

Thats all that matters in this case. Airlines dont want to give up revenue but they need to be realistic about what happened in houston. It's not like you were trying to cancel a trip 2 months from now...

Glad you got through to them
