How to search for flights from anywhere in Europe to a specific airport in the US

I'm planning in a trip in September which will ultimately end in Budapest. From there I want to make my way back to LAX airport. Flights from Budapest aren't great so I'm trying to see if there are any good flights from another airport in Europe, which I may be able to buy a cheap flight from Budapest to get to.
I figured this would be a simple thing to search for online but I cannot find any search engine that offers this function. They all offer picking Europe as a destination but not as an origin.
Has anyone used a search engine that offers this function before?

Try Hopper.
Get to some place like Heathrow or De Gaulle from Budapest and you should find plenty of flights.

Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam and London are your best bets.

Just getting to Europe the best and cheapest way possible is job #1. Then, you can always find connecting flights with another European airline (like Ryan). Just know their stipulations about carry on baggage etc. and potential extra fees. Target Munich or Amsterdam, but it really does vary a lot.
I love the app Hopper and use it all the time. SkyScanner and Google Flights are good too. I've also purchased annual subscriptions to FareDrop and Scott's Cheap Airfare (they're only $30-$40/year and well worth it).
Actually, the last 3 trips we've used AlphaFlightGuru. Swear they can always beat whatever I've found. You have to call and talk to someone, but they're great.

Knowing the destination and not the origin is tough.
If you find a good resource, let me know. Was in the same situation last year and finally found Dublin as an affordable option to leave Europe. It was after much searching and trial/error.
On the plus side, I got 48 hours to explore Dublin and their airport has pre-clearance for US immigration.

Try looking for flights out of Lisbon, Portugal. Look at Norwegian Airlines. My daughter used them this past spring for a one way flight to MSY.

If you do the reverse, search LAX to anywhere in Europe, then would your results not have a strong correlation to what’s cheapest reversing the routes? I’ve never tried, but are flights not the same price the opposite direction of travel?

-select multicity
-enter your destination city-date
-enter departing city-date
-enter departing city-date select "nearby" and enter radius from Budapest then select cities
-enter destination city-date
this will give you a list of flights that you can filter using dropdowns
OR you can do just a one-way using the same steps

No they aren't necessarily the same price. I just tried it on Google Flights and the one-way flight from the LAX to Lisbon was more expensive than the flight from Lisbon to LAX. Don't know the reason(s).

Thanks..I just tried doing that and it said "journeys with origins in multiple countries are not allowed" why is this so hard to do?
I guess I just need to do it the "old fashioned" way and select the airports that you guys mentioned, and then also look at separate flights to get to those airports.

Just did a quick Google search, and they literally have dozens of flights a day from London to LAX.

Just to warn you, the budget flights don’t usually fly from the same airport as the international flights. Similar to southwest here in the states. Now it may save you considerably I’m not sure, but I’m simply warning you you likely won’t be able to go straight from a ryanair flight onto Lufthansa or British Air.

Certainly I don’t know if they will be the exact same, for one days are different. Traffic is heavier headed to Europe on some days and headed back possibly others. But I think there would be a pretty strong correlation. I could be wrong. But if it’s a $600 flight from LAX to Amsterdam it’s not likely to be $1200 flight from Amsterdam to LAX but maybe $650. I think you could at least use the inverse to narrow your options down.

One way flights are much more expensive than round trip on almost every airline.

Yeah, London is a good option, but all the flights to get to London for me land in a different airport than the good flights to LAX. Anyone ever travel between the airports in London? There's like 5 different airports there

There are buses and, for some, trains that can take you from airport to airport. Do some actual research and make sure to plan enough time between flights if you're, say... flying into Gatwick or Stansted and flying out of Heathrow.

I was wrong about one-way flights using this feature.
But if you input your flight itinerary using the multi-city option in the above example, you will get options from departure cities that you can then select which to research.

Are you looking for a one way or you still looking to book your flight to get to Europe also?
Everyone keeps recommending the larger airports, and that is usually the case. But LAX likely has some directs to smaller airports also. I know Frankfurt is a busy airport, but for example the MSY-Frankfurt direct on Condor. OP may be able to find something like.
