It will likely be cheaper to book a multi city round trip ticket than a discount one way plus a budget airline one way and any attendant transfers.

Try it and see.....you might want to try Zagreb as your departure airport for the return flight. I frequently see cheaper fares from Zagreb, and you can take the FlixBus from Budapest to Zagreb overnight (5 hrs, about $60 or less).

I'm planning in a trip in September which will ultimately end in Budapest.

Bruh, I just looked there's roundtrip for 7 days on Norwegian air from LAX to Budapesh for $554 Sept 18-25. TONS of options this september all over Europe for under $600 round trip Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, under $600. London $389. Etc.

That's absurdly good prices for 6 weeks away. What kind of issues are you having?

I'm trying to get to Munich for Oktoberfest leaving LAX on September 19, and then fly home from Budapest on Sept 30.

I actually found a solid flight just now. Using Hungryone's suggestion, the multi city function is showing one on Lufthansa for $937. Nonstop to Munich and then one stop on the way back from Budapest. Planes leaving at convenient times too.

I could have gotten a round trip to London for less than 500 (crazy right) for the same dates but then I'd have to deal with getting flights from/to london and changing airports and all that

Thanks all for the help

Book it. That's not a terrible fare, considering the multi city itinerary. Sometimes, you need to consider all of the other costs, not just airfare. Yes, RT from London was $500, but you'd spend time and money getting to & from London--Munich and Budapest--London. Even if you scored $50 RyanAir flights into the necessary airports, you still would likely not have convenient times & would be wasting hours or overnight layovers. By the time you added up the cheap flights, transport to airports, layover hours (maybe hotel room), inflated airport food/beverage, etc., you'd probably waste $250 of anything you saved.

NS to Munich from LAX is a great way to start the vacation, and just one stop on the return, leaving from your departure city, is good for your peace of mind on the way home. No scurrying between airports or excess takeoffs/landings.

Yeah, I pounced on it. I definitely don’t want to over complicate things to save a few hundred bucks. It’s really strange how the multi city fares are so much cheaper. I just looked at the same Lufthansa flight but only for one way from LAX-Munich, and it was $3,000. Wtf?
