Houston Hotel for July 4th World Cup Match

One of my kids has two tickets to the July 4th FIFA® World Cup® match (sponsored by Coca-Cola®) but will need a hotel thereabouts and asked me for advice. The tickets also included a Parking Pass at a lot nearish to NRG Stadium at 1500 Old Spanish Trail.
Any suggestions as to upper end (not top end) safe hotels to recommend? I seem to recall that hotels close to NRG are not necessarily the best option.
They’ll have a car but can Uber if that’s a better option.
Thanks in advance.

I like the Hotel Icon. Beautiful downtown hotel in an old bank building.

Probably not. The last time I was at NRG, it cost me $43 to get there from Katy. To get back, it was $210, and I had to walk to a supermarket parking lot two miles away, and wait 40 minutes for the ride.
The Courtyard near NRG is $310 or so. However, to have something to do (there isn't much around NRG), he could stay at the aLoft in the Galleria area for $241, or the Sheraton Brookhollow in the Heights for $188.
And beware, anything downtown-ish is going to hit you with a $50/night valet fee.

stay downtown or medical center area and catch the metro train.

downtown, med center, or galleria area.
I would say the train from DT and Med center - BUT it will packed. Since they already have a parking pass I would just drive.

Maybe stay at a Holiday Inn Express kinda place and Uber from Pearland.

The problem isn't Ubering to NRG, it's getting out.

Getting to an event is always easier than leaving for sure. I've never taken a rideshare to NRG, but most stadiums these days limit where you can call rides and it can be a huge pain to get a car after.
If you want "an upper end" hotel they should either stay downtown or med center and take the train. Of course with the parking pass they could drive, but 99.9% chance that driving, parking, walking will take way longer seat to hotel both ways than the train.

there are a few IHG hotels within a mile or two of the stadium 1 looks to be in the parking lot. otherwise there are some decent hotels around the medical center a few miles out.
