Help me out with a quick & cheap European vacation (~3-4 vacation days) for me and the Mrs

Would like to get out of the country. We’re hitting the beach and pigeon forge with family this summer, just looking for something quick for us. Also want to keep the cost less than $3k (I had found flight and Airbnb for $1500 to Spain earlier this year but didn’t pull the trigger : / ). Do work, travel board.

I would look for deals on TravelZoo or similar websites. Be flexible and willing to travel on odd days - that will save a lot on flights often times.
Also, consider countries where the dollar is strong - Croatia would be worth looking into.

There's actually a flash sale today to Rome, Amsterdam, Paris and Milan from a bunch of US cities. If any of those cities interest you, I would play with Google Flights a bit. I found one to Rome from MSY pretty close to Labor Day for around 500.
And just to clarify, those flights will be gone within 24 hours. So if you see one, you need to book it right then and there. It will be gone by the next time you click on it.

Generally speaking the cheapest place in Europe to fly to is Dublin.

Help out the board by giving the airport(s) you would be willing to fly out of.
Also why only 3-4 days? That means only two days of actually enjoying a city in Europe

shoot, i thought i put MSY. 3-4 vacation days meaning 5-6 days total w/ weekend. that's 4 days in a city.

I think if you are going to do that, and as a way to lessen your overall travel time, would recommend flying the direct from MSY to LHR and spending the time in London.

I thought about recommending that, but if he's trying to do this trip on a budget then London is not the place to go. It's one of the most expensive cities in the world.

This is what I'd do. Has all the feel of europe without actually going to europe. Plus it'll be about half the cost of going across the pond and with only 3-4 vacation days, that's about the right amount to explore the area

thanks for the info so far. will add QC to the list. crazy that it's almost the same price to get to europe as it is to get to Canada.....

You missed out on the sale last week to Europe. Dublin is probably the easiest for time and often price. Only problem is the cost of things there. Prague is super cheap and you can get good flight prices at times (not seeing any right now), but takes a little longer for travel.

BO and I think alike...for maximum vacation time on a short trip, fly direct from MSY to either London (British Airways) or Frankfort (Condor, May thru October, IIRC). London can be done on the cheap--look for AirBnBs over hotel rooms, as an apartment with a kitchen means you can pop over to the nearest Tesco for groceries, and choose to have a limited number of restaurant meals in order to stretch your $$$.
I have my eye on Frankfort for early summer, it's an easy train ride to Strasbourg. You could hit two countries that way...
But, as someone pointed out upthread, Dublin is usually the cheapest destination in Europe. It's great for a short trip. Hotels can be quite expensive, so look for AirBnbs....it's a compact city, but near enough to countryside (Wicklow Mts, coastal cliff walking around Howth/Greystones), and the historical sights of the Boyne valley. You can't fly direct from MSY, though...so you'll waste a little more time in transit.

3 days is tough man... that's not even enough time to recover from jet lag. We spent a little over two weeks in Europe and felt like it was rushed. I say keep saving and extend the timeline.
