there a reason why you need to waste a day with two young kids in Hattiesburg? Why will you be there?

I’ve always been surprised as to why Hattiesburg doesn’t market themselves as a desirable place to live, especially for retirees.

Isn't it like some official retirement community or something?

Why do you have to be there?

Drive through campus. That will take 10-15 minutes.

There's a military museum at Camp Shelby

The train station is kinda neat and historic

That's about all I got.

Come on man! Meridian has its issues but he would drive through Laurel first. That will get the point across

Laurel is a terrible place to be stuck in MS.

Leave Hattiesburg and drive to Meridian.
It’ll make you appreciate Hattiesburg.

Now that's the truth, but you really only need to make it to Laurel. (ETA somebody beat me to the punch here )

If you head west a little, you can go see this Red Bluff trail: LINK

I never said there weren't more terrible places to be stuck in MS, just that credible sources have told me Laurel is a terrible place to be stuck in MS!

Laurel is so nuf raunchy on the face of it, but it does have some finer points. If you got money and your world is small, then it is pure heaven on earth. It could even be a good place to be if you got money, but live in the whole world because the money provides an escape hatch when things get a little too "gothic." The eccentric side of me wants a chalet somewhere in the Swiss Alps, a beach home on St. Barts, and a big ole big columned faded glory of an escape hatch in, or just outside of Laurel, Mississippi for when I get fed up with the world, which is often these days.

Laurel was the location of Belle Reve (French for "beautiful dream"), Blanche Dubois' lost family plantation in A Streetcar Named Desire. (For legal reasons it was changed to "Oriole" in the movie)

Always found it odd Williams would place it there rather than the Delta where he spent his childhood.
