Go visit Southern Miss. It’s like a smaller version of LSU. They have a big golden eagle sanctuary on campus near fraternity row.

The eagle sanctuary is something new in Mississippi time. I still remember when Southern Miss was known as the "Southerners." In retrospect, it's shocking that they relented so soon and so easily when pressured to change the mascot. After all, we are all Southerners, and would be even without the War of Northern Aggression. Just a geographic reference. Of course in these crazy times we live in today there would be riots and bombings over it. I also know that Ray Guy, not Bret Farve, was and is the greatest grider that ever wore the Black and Gold. He grew up in Thomson, Georgia and I saw him play once. I think even with segregation he is 1 of the 3 best high school ballers I ever saw play high school ball in Georgia. Never really understood why he went to Southern Miss because everybody wanted him (not throwing off on Southern, it was just odd how they won out over the Bear, Georgia, etc.)

No shade on ray guy, but FAVRE is in a league of his own. Even more than a punter.

To the OP, you could always take the self guided tour of Palmdale on a afroman history crawl.

I'm referring strictly to each of the gentlemen's careers at Southern Miss. No doubt Farve had the better pro career. I'll just refer you to what his coach with the Raiders, John Madden, had to say about Ray Guy, which was that he was the best all-around player on the Raiders when he coached them, and could have been all-pro at any number of positions on the field. However, he was just too valuable as a punter to risk him getting injured playing offense or defense. The NFL doesn't call the award for the best punter in the league the "Ray Guy Award" for nothing.

Bring a Cotton Blue’s cheesecake home or at least go by the restaurant and have a slice. Also, for food you may want to stop at Lil Butcher Shoppe. They make some really good sausages. Pineapple is one of my favorites.

Cotton Blue’s restaurant is closed- covid casualty. They still make cheesecakes, sold in grocery stores and possibly online
