Looking at doing this for the first time this year. Will be Labor Day weekend when in town for LSU opener. Just realized this ran all the way from 1st of Sept. anyone ever done this ? Is it worth Checking out ? Also, is the express pass a must. I plan on getting it for the park that day but didn’t know if I’d really need it for HH night stuff too. Thanks in advance

I went last year we were in town for a conference and it was a lot of fun. I think we did like 5 of 8 houses?

It’s different for sure. I think I went on a special price night and it was like $85? It was worth that. I’m not sure I’d pay a ton more. Every drinks a lot so that’s $$$ and then the food was very small portions for the most part, so a decent deal was basically not. I bet we spent $150 on food and drinks for 2 of us.

That early shouldn’t be bad, some nights get crazy and you will want the express pass for haunted houses because lines can get up to 2-3 hours in the regular line on bad nights. Price can add up quick with drinks and food.

If you enjoy Harry Potter at all, the diagon alley section is usually crazy empty during HHN.

Sometimes the park is overloaded with late teens and early 20s with no supervision being annoying as frick too.

It’s neat if you dig Halloween. I enjoy it when it’s not crazy packed.

Ill add a couple other notes I rememembered.

They close things down through the night, so take a look at that and ride those or do those houses early.

You don't need to plan like Disney, but 9-midnight is a madhouse. So I would try and do the show which was incredible, even consider doing it twice it was that good.

Then if you can close the park down, you can kill it on the haunted houses late. After midnight the lines started to really dwindle and I think we did more houses after 12:30 than we did the rest of the night. Many of them get to where you can basically just walk right into them. But again, they do close some of them down so do those ones early.

Appreciate the tips. I’ve been wanting to check this out for years but Mrs jkyle isn’t a fan of scary shite. Worked it out to go to the lsu game with my bro and he’s down to go. I wasn’t sure what to expect out of a crowd in Sept. Labor Day and opening weekend.

Honestly the “scariest” parts were probably the street characters as you are walking around, simply because some of them you don’t know if they are characters and what they are going to do.

The haunted houses are interesting but you are basically walking through a corporate haunted house in a huge line of people I’m not really sure what they can do. Surprising maybe? They are fun and interesting with some drinks. I’m not sure if scary though?

This is very accurate, the haunted houses while having neat designs were basically like a really well themed line to a ride that you never get on.

The street performers and shows and little things they got going on I found I liked more.

can't speak for the current iteration of HHN, but we went back in 2012 or so the year we lived close enough for an annual pass to Universal. The key for us was to make sure we got inside the park with our regular pass before the HHN crowd showed up. We did half of the houses in about an hour before the big crowds arrived. After that we spent a lot of time standing in lines. After one or two long lines we decided to ride the rides that stayed operational, which had short waits. Lot of fun.

We went a couple nights during the week in 2017 while on hurricane evacuation vacation. It wasn’t overly crowded during the week, and as mentioned the park changes from daytime to nighttime in terms of what rides stay open. Over all I like Universal 1k times more than Disney. The haunted houses themselves were ok, but I expected more. Sort of just felt like cattle being pushed through a long exhibit. The “pop up” street stuff was scarier and more interesting imo. They could really expand on that, but it might be too much for some people.
