Nothing significant, a few tress down here and there but nothing that will damper a vacation.

You are probably correct. However, I discussed the situation with my daughter who is a real estate broker in Asheville and she recommended we wait a month or so before making a decision. She says the downtown area will reopen as soon as electricity and water are restored. She said our BnB, which is on the South Slope near the Orange Peel, was not damaged, and the Biltmore Mansion will probably reopen when power and water are restored. We can cancel our BnB as late as mid-November and cancel our airline tickets even later since we booked full fare.

I do not but I have family that has a cabin there and they have gone to check up on things and they have told me things are fine. If you are interested in going i would advise calling the city of Blue Ridge to get first hand information. It is a great little town for sure.

They have a disaster policy allowing full refunds. Had to use it for Beryl. Contact them or maybe the host has to request, not sure on that part.

Guntersville, Alabama is nice. There are plenty of vacation rentals and the hiking at the state park is great.

FYI...

We just got back from a week in Franklin NC. While impacted, with some flooding, that area of Western North Carolina was generally spared from any major devastation. Dillsboro got some flooding but the town is back up and running. We took a load of warm clothes, dental supplies, batteries, diapers etc. which a local church wanted.

The area wants and needs your business. All of the major tourist areas like Cashiers, Highlands, Bryson City etc. were fully open for business and vibrant. We shopped, dined out, did daily hikes, hit a few wineries (surprisingly good) Liked Deep Creek!

Leaves were spectacular BTW!

This is patently false. I was living a 10 minute walk from downtown Asheville during the storm and walked downtown every day for cell service and can confirm that Asheville downtown did not flood.

OP should check into the Highlands/Cashiers/Sapphire area. We are in final stages of building our Mountain house in Chinquapin Development and have been there several times in the last month and they are doing fine now.

Chinquapin has many short term rentals and the development has 20 plus miles of hiking and some beautiful waterfalls as well. Might be worth it to if you still want to go there and check on availability.

It's not Asheville, but it is great area to visit.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is still fully closed up there

Yall are going to be shocked by the amount of trees that are gone when you return on your warm month trips.
