I currently work in Israel. I have accumulated enough airmiles to fly me and wife pretty much anywhere.
We are wanting to go somewhere for about 7-10 days.
Italy we would like to see pretty much the main tourist attractions Rome.
Greece we like the idea of relaxing on a beautiful beach.
Has anyone been to either or?

Been to Italy multiple times. That would be my choice because I just love Italy. There are beaches in Italy too.

I'm giving Italy the edge, simply on food/wine grounds.

There is a ferry from Brindisi to Corfu, you could do both.
We really enjoyed Corfu after 3 days in Rome.

I will say that I have never been to either, but I will go at some point. As such, I have read up on both. Italy appeals to my sense of history and food. There is a wide range of places to visit in Italy from beaches to mountains to vineyards to historical sites. Greece has much to offer from a historical view as well, but is quite a bit more economical right now for Western travelers. You could also look at Cyrus in that same area. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either.

MLU,
I believe a deciding factor would be $$, so if Greece is cheaper, we might visit Italy at another time.

Been to both. What time of year?

I've only been to Rome and enjoyed it, but it's not for everyone. Greece blew me away. Had a great couple of days in Athens messing around the Acropolis, etc., then went out to Naxos and almost didn't come back. People like to bring up food as one of Italy's selling points, and rightly so, but I didn't have a single bad meal in Greece.

Can't beat the experiences in Italy. If I had to choose 1 country to visit, I'd choose Italy over all others.
That being said, some Greek islands have the most breathtaking views in the world.
Santorini, Greece
Zakynthos, Greece

At Corfu we had a nice, large room overlooking the ocean with an awesome private bathroom with walk in shower (first private bathroom in a week). It cost $25 a night. The Greek lady cooked an English breakfast for $1. It included fried eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice. We'd figured on being there for 2 nights and spent a week instead. Just a great, relaxed time. Of course, these are 1990 prices but I'm sure that Greece is still much cheaper than Rome.

Depends if you want to sit on a beach and relax the Greece is the place to go, just bring swim socks if you go in and the water is quite a bit cooler then the gulf. The sights are unbelievably breathtaking.
Santorini, Mykonos is reasonably priced and plenty day trips, vineyards sailboat cruises and beaches for days

I'd love to see both, very much.

I'm in the same decision as part of a larger trip for my honeymoon, specifically 5-6 nights at either Amalfi Coast or Santorini/Mykanos. I'm leaning towards Greece because I'll 100% be back to Italy for a solo Italy trip, so leaning towards Greece for the honeymoon as it's less likely we'll be back there, and it seems more honeymoon-y. Validate this decision for me please.

A close friend choose Greece (Santorini and Mykanos) for their honeymoon about 6 months before ours last year. When I sought his advice, he said in no uncertain terms to skip Greece. They regretted not going to Italy. They spent plenty on some of the nicest Greece had to offer, but thought it lacked depth. We did Amalfi and have zero regrets. Incredible and so much to do.

I've done both this past May for my honeymoon. Positano (my favorite in Amalfi Coast) is located only 170 miles from Rome.
And there is a 2 hour nonstop flight from Rome to Santorini.
Both were jaw droppingly beautiful. I will be back in both Santorini and Amalfi coast. I can skip some other Italian cities next time but I will be back in Positano/Amalfi/Ravello/Capri.

I would recommended you do both.
I did both in May- Milan, Venice, and Athens. We had already been to Rome. Flights from Venice to Athens are pretty cheap. Originally we were going to fly into Santorini, but that flight got pushed back a day. Greece is much cheaper than Italy.
