Trying to plan a trip to see Grand Canyon w kids in early March. Trying to figure out where to start and what to see. Looking online seems daunting and overwhelming. We won't be hiking down....just a general over view tour. Suggestions?

Your wouldn’t want to...still may have snow and ice at the top. Will still be cold so dress warmly.

Drive into South Rim National Park(North Rim area will still have roads closed so can’t get to it)....go park and walk around. Or can drive to different viewpoints. They used to have free shuttles that would take you to each one but I think those have stopped due to COVID.

We went a couple of years ago and entered at the East Gate, then just drove along the rim stopping at most of the stops/overlooks along the way, until we got to the main area. Then just explored around there for a few hours.

I would fly into Phoenix, or Flagstaff rather than Vegas, and rent a car. You'll enter through the south entrance because the east entrance is closed because its Navajo res and covid.

Like others said, just drive around, and hike around to different viewpoints. I've hiked down into the canyon in mid March before, and it wasn't bad at all. But as has been stated, there definitely could be snow.

Go to Williams, Az. and ride the train to the GC. Great views.

Is the Grand Canyon realistically more than one full day with kids? So as not to do any long hikes? Seems like you just drive the rim, walk to the overlooks, and that's it right? Not saying that's "it" like not impressive, but what's a good place to overnight and what should a realistic kids' itinerary look like?

Did just that last week/weekend, and as mentioned, explored Phoenix and Scottsdale as well.

The drive from Phoenix to Sedona is great. The drive through Oak Creek Canyon on 89A between Flagstaff and Sedona is one of my favorite drives ever. Special place. Have fun!

Highly recommend watching the sun set and rise over the Canyon...it was absolutely incredible to witness.

ETA: we did both of these at the South Rim

Headed back to NOLA after 5 days in Arizona (timed this trip perfect, weather has been incredible.) Spent one day at Grand Canyon which was plenty unless you are looking to do hikes.

Drive into park at South entrance (East entrance is closed.) Stop at Mather Point to get your first wow moment with the family. After that take the Desert View route (22 miles along the rim). It has multiple overlooks with parking. Highlights were Moran Point, Lipan Point and Grandview. Can’t go wrong with any spot though. We stopped at all and still had plenty time. Keep in mind with East entrance closed you will have to head back the 22 mile road to get out of the park.

Don’t rush out though. Drive to the Bright Angel Lodge where you can easily walk to multiple viewing spots and grab some food or drinks.

If you get the chance...take that drive between Flagstaff and Sedona (89A). Beautiful drive.

Is the Grand Canyon West area worth a day trip from Vegas?

I’ve been to the North Rim and have no desire to see the South. The North Rim is that beautiful.

I’ve never been, heard it’s kinda a tourist trap. It’s not part of the National Parks, owned by the tribe. You can’t just drive up to it....you have to pay the tribe to take a shuttle there. I’ve heard if you do the Skywalk...you aren’t allowed to bring any personal belongings with you so you can’t take your own photos. They take pics of you which they sell for $$$$.

That does OP no good since roads to North Rim might still be closed when he wants to go

i have been in arizona for 18 years now and still haven't made it to the north rim. the 6 hour drive from phoenix just seems like a long haul. we can be in san diego in that time! will make it up there one day.
