I’ll be there with my wife and kids (6,4&2) for a long weekend in early Oct. What do y’all recommend for entertainment and must do’s that the kids will enjoy. Also, restaurant recommendations would be appreciated. Thansk

I haven't been in a long, long time, but there's a reason they hold so many little league tournaments there. It's like that area was built for kids under 16. Dollywood, etc.
Just looking at Dollywood's schedule, there is a harvest fest with 12,000 pumpkins somehow involved that runs for five weeks while you're there.
See if you can get a property with a hot tub. It should be a little bit chilly, and the kids will love getting in and out of the tub and running around.
Don't be afraid to go into the national park and do some hiking. Many of the roads have close to zero traffic on them (at least they did when I went for Xmas break), and you could push a few strollers and check out the scenery.

Dollywood is your best bet, but don’t neglect to take you kids into the NP. It will be crowded due to leaves starting to change.

Anakeesta can be a lot of fun.
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies
Clingmans Dome Trail...2 & 4 are a little young...but it is paved all the way up the trail...so it is the easiest trail to hike with very small children.

Smoky Mountains National Park might be “closed” it government shuts down. We got an email today and only essential employees will be there and they will lock the gates. Plan your trip as if the park will be closed and if the shut down doesn’t happen you can visit.

Just a caveat, it is very steep. Doable, but it's a half mile straight up. (Or maybe a mile, been a while since I did that.)
Lots of good suggestions here already. There are tons of options depending on what you want to do.

I went up it with a 4 year old...a hard-headed 4 year old...so it took a while, but we made it, and eventually it was worth it. 2-year old would probably result in a lot of carrying.

Anakeesta can be fun and I think might be good for little kids. Please watch the weather. They continue sending people up the mountain even when things are closed at the top due to weather. Should you get stuck in a storm at the top, it takes hours (3+) to be bussed down the one way road in one of their little buses that only hold 24-30 people. It's one of the more miserable things that's ever happened to me on vacation.
