Please give me some ideas for fun, non-touristy Chicago activities. We'll be there in mid-March and would like to do stuff other than the usual Bean, Navy Pier, Mag Mile etc since we've done all of that on previous trips. We'll have our 17-y/o son with us and we all enjoy museums, tours, history, etc. We will do the Field Museum and Art Institute again however because we enjoyed them so much. Thanks!

Multiple great museums there, if you haven't done the Museum of Science and Industry that's a must IMO. At 17 he'll enjoy that also. The U-boat is great.

I think they have a Mobster tour, probably would be good.

I enjoy China Town but I never make it out to other big cities that have them. We usually grab a lunch and a tea when there.

We did this one year and it was great! It was fun seeing all of the old haunts etc. Thanks for the other suggestions as well

- See a show at Lyric Opera
- Money Museum at Federal Reserve
- Sports Museum on Michigan
- Mob Tour
- Garfield Park Conservatory
- Walk south on Lakeshore Path
- Montrose Beach
- Take the train and walk around Loyola and Northwestern
- LP Zoo
- Kayak on the Chicago River
- Southport Corridor for food and shopping
- Second City for comedy show
- If here during the summer, catch some music at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park

ETA: sorry, skimmed over mid-March.

Are y'all into food? If you can get into Alinea, it's supposed to be a one of a kind dining experience. It's not cheap, but it would certainly be memorable.

CIBC Theater
Saw Hamilton in Chicago - a lot cheaper than anywhere else off Broadway since it's been there awhile now.

Willis Tower sky-deck can get really busy and may not be worth the wait. The one at John Hancock is actually fun and less crowded. I’d try some deep dish from Pizzaria Uno. Catch the train up to Wrigley for a Cubs game. Architecture tour. River tour. Maybe a Segway tour around Grant Park.

Mid March will be dependent on the weather. Also sounds like you will be here St Patrick’s weekend so a lot of things will be going on but tough with a 17yo.

Actually that's the main reason we're going. It's crazy how much cheaper it is than on Broadway.

That's where I saw it the first time. It's a great theater.

More expensive to see Hamilton in New Orleans than Chicago.
It's really good and not once did I think of anything political about it.

Yeah, I got booted out of the queue in that Ticketmaster fiasco for New Orleans tickets. Sadly, it's just easier and cheaper to go to Chicago.

That's because there is nothing political about it. At least anything relevant today.

Unless you still hate those damned Federalists

People are just stupid and think it had to be political because it's hip-hop styled.

It really is. The price of hotels as well. Chicago with a flight is cheaper for 3-4 days than driving and parking a vehicle in NOLA.

Do this. Literally everyone likes from all ages.

You also have to get to Weiner Circle! Great hot dog. Ask for a chocolate milkshake too. Make sure your son is with you.

Hamilton has been mentioned a couple of times. Download the app. You can enter the lottery for $10 tickets.
