I have a ton of quotes on resorts, All-inclusive and clean water. I set the budget at 2500 for flights and resort. 6 days. We have like 6 options for each. Just wanting to see the opinion of the TB.

Last year we went to Cancun end of May early June and the seaweed was in full effect. NO beach (random or yearly??)

but asking what would you do? what place is better than the other?

We are going the week of the 15th May

There's a massive thing of seaweed headed for FL, not sure how far in it'll push but looks like the DR may be in the line of fire.

The only way you are getting away from seaweed in the Caribbean is to stay on the west side of whatever island. Also 2500 for flights and 6 nights for 2 people is basically impossible unless you are staying at a low tier AI

Yeah, came here to say this.

Unless you are getting super cheap flights, you are going to be lower tier. For refernece, wife and I are doing a quick 3 night trip to Cancun and it's costing around $2500 (and that's getting a great deal on flights at about $350 RT). Granted we are staying at the Excellence which is higher end (around $650 per night), but even if your flights are ridiculously cheap, say $250....you are leaving $2k for 6 nights? Less than $350 per night is not going to be a high end AI. Either cut back the nights, raise the budget, or just realize it's going to be low end, IMO.

ETA: was in DR last week (north island) and seaweed wasn't bad. It's going to be bad in Mexico my mid summer it seems. It is what it is, I spend my time at the pool and just realize the beach isn't going to be as pretty as it could be.

I heard Excellence in Cancun is pretty awesome. I may book that for the wife and I’s 5 year anniversary

We stayed at the resort mostly but did go to Scape Park. You can do it through the resort. Lots of fun.

We did Excellence Punta Cana 7 years ago. Was great then. Chrap. Had our own rooftop pool. Food and drinks were good.

We spent 6 nights at Secrets Cap Cana in July 22. 2 adults with airfare was $7000, but that was for Oceanview with personal pool on our deck.

Wife and I booked Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana for December. 6 nights in a Club Honeymoon Beachfront Swim-Up for $3200. I think it was $2900 but we paid extra for the refundable option which they let you cancel up to 24 hours before you reservation. I’m estimating roughly $1000 for flights on Southwest. Join the Facebook groups for the Excellence resorts or any resort you’re researching. Tons of good reviews, photos and Q&A posts.

Doing a similar trip in 2 weeks, what can you tell me about it?
